A Brief History of Alpha Chi Lambda

The "charter members" of Alpha Chi Lambda, who like our beloved Jewels, had a vision. Led by Bro. Lawrence D. Perry, they felt that the CSRA would benefit greatly by having an Alpha chapter in the area. After forming a interest group of Alpha brothers who had been initiated at various colleges, there vision became a reality on April 27, 1935, when ALPHA CHI LAMBDA, with colors flying, set sail on the sea of Alpha.

Along with brother Perry, who was the branch manger at Atlanta Life Insurance, our charter members were Bro. Rev A. C. Griggs, a teacher at the Haines Instuite, Bro. S.M. Jenkins the branch manager at Pilgrim Life Insurance Company, Bro. J.J. Tutt, Athletic Director at Haines, Bro R. L. Lockett and L. M. White, who were both dentists, A. M. Carter, a Treasurer at Pilgrim Life Insurance, A. E. Hill a local pharmacist and W. D. Woods.

With over 60 years of service to the CSRA, the brothers of Alpha Chi Lambda, look forward to 60 more years of making a difference in the area, by living up to the aims of our great fraternity, Manly Deeds, Scholarship and love for all mankind. It our belief that we are a chapter of "princely mein and grace, a Brotherhood striving to be a credit to our race".
