The bible communicates to us a picture of God. It lets us see hear what he is like, what he is expects of us. Of courses there is far more to God than we could ever taken in. We do not even understand all there is to know about ourselves-let alone all there is to know about God! However, the Bible shows us that God did not want to be cloaked in mystery as an unknown different ways:
Nature. When we look at the univese as God's creation, we can see something of God's immense power, intelligence and glory.
Experience. Sometimes God communicates directly to us through our own experiences. Jesus Christ. The best picture God has given us of himself is in the life and words of Jesus. Jesus was God living as a human, and by looking at him we can understand and know God for ourselves.
The Bible. The Bible is an important way in which God communicates with us. It gives us a detailed view of God himself, the world we live in, and of ourselves. Obviously, the Bible does not contain all there is to know about the world and ourselves. God has given us the gift of curiosity that we can find out for ourselves. But in the Bible, God has showen us what we need to know in order to enjoy a close relationship with him. |
