Born on what was a probably a cold day in Lithuania (it's a country near Poland, Viktorija Dmitrijeva (Vika to you and I) entered this world as a daughter to Olga and Alexander Dmitrijev.
Fast forward to the year 2000, the summer was hot and humid in Massachusetts, and young Vika is learning English at Six Flags New England as a ride operator. Me (Jason), I am a struggling professional, fresh out of college, recently transferred back to my love (Human Resources - yes I love my job) from the sorrow that was Cash Control (Yes, I was in charge of counting money).
On one of the normally warm days, my generous boss Don sends me on a mission, that as a volunteer ride operator since staffing flat out sucked. So there I am, sitting in the Scream tower as an operator and who strolls in....Vika! Mind you we've never met before this time, but Vika sends the other operator on their break and there we are, just the two of us, chatting away. Of course I ask the normal questions: how do you like the US? blah, blah, blah. But the whole time, I can only fix myself on the good looks and great eyes of this international beauty that is talking to me. Nervous? Of course. Confident? Not really. (After all, Burnout hit me back at Memorial Day when I was working in Cash Control).
So there I was, a young, recent college grad, living on company property (I thought I was a stud for where I was living), and I did nothing to approach Vika about the attraction that I had to her. Leave it my pal Kurt to talk with Vika at the local watering hole (formerly Bobbie's) to hook me up and let Vika in on my crush. Later that same night, it must have been 1 or 2 am, there's a knocking at my door. All I could think is "What the hell did the international's do now? They better not be partying on the roof at Suffield again!" But when I open the door, who could it be, a beautiful Vika looking at me! We watched TV, talked, but mostly stared at each other for what seemed like hours. She did leave that night, but it was easy to see that there was an enormous amount of energy and attraction between us.
We hung out for the next 3 weeks until Vika went home to Lithuania, We talked maybe once a month and emailed frequently. I guess it's true, absence makes the heart grow fonder. So I give Vika one heck of a Christmas present....me! I traveled 21 hours to spend the holidays and New Years with Vika and her family. So there I was an American in Lithuania, sticking our like a sore thumb.
Fortunately, Vika was able to return to the U.S., this time for 1 year, and we were able to spend more time together than ever. We traveled to Las Vegas and Hawaii, all the while spending each and every day together. We were able to learn alot about each other. The good. The bad. The sometimes ugly (me hungover). And through it all, we remained.
So there we are, Vika and I in the airport on a warm and rainy night in June. A good hour or so before she is to board her flight, and I drop to one knee, and propose (yes - I already had the ring. Don't ask why I waited so long). And Vika said YES!
Now on to the paperwork process to get her back (the gov't frowns upon people that stay here past their visa expiring). We applied to INS, 3 weeks later we're approved. INS sends our approval to the embassy in Warsaw, Poland and 4 weeks after that, Vika receives more paperwork for her to do. She returns it and one month later she is able to get her interview date with the Consulate. November 14, 2002. D-Day for us. The day that Vika can get her final approval and receive her visa.

The verdict?
Vika passed with flying colors!
Now she'll be flying in to Boston on December 12th!
Update: December 20, 2002
WOW! Vika's already here and has already gotten her job at Filene's back!
We're sending some pictures to be developed and burned to a disk, so we'll have those posted soon!
Update: January 31, 2003
The new pictures are posted now! We are trying to scan some old photos and post those too.
Vika's mother, father, and sister have applied for and received permission to travel to the US for our wedding! They arrive on the 28th of February. Thanks to my parents for providing a place for them to stay.
Vika's bridal shower is on the 2nd of January. She so excited to see everyone that can make it! This is not typical in Lithuania, so she is extremely excited to take part in it!
Jason's bachelor party is on February 22nd. It's going to be a great time!
If you are looking for ticket information, just drop me an email. It will be great to see everyone that can make it!
The wedding has been planned for March 8th! Yup, the date is coming up quick!
Vika has had a great time helping my mother with all of the arrangements. From dresses to flowers, food to djs and limos, Vika has been extremely busy with all arrangements. Lithuania's weddings are typically two days long, but the a guest list of 60 is considered large. Plus the fact that both days are for drinking and celebrating, Vika has been very receptive to the customs and styles of weddings in the US.
September 9, 2003
It's been a while since I've updated, but here's a quick synopsis of all that has been going on:
Vika and I married on March 8, 2003. Everything went great and the bride was absolutely gorgeous. Vika's family had a great time in the US and got to see Boston, a Bruins game, and spent a couple days in NYC.
Now here we are, 6 months later, and we are finally taking our honeymoon. We fly out on September 10th for 4 days in Paris, then continue on for a week in Lithuania. We are definitely excited and can't wait to see our family and friends in Lithuania.
Vika has had a lot going on lately too. She's been working a ton of hours, recently passed her drivers test, started her first class at HCC, received a scholarship from her employment agency, and, most importantly, passed the INS interview to receive her green card! What a relief to us both to have the green card. We can do our international traveling without any problems!
