Posted on January 19, 2002 by Regan WallinHappy New Year everyone! Let's kick off the posting frenzy for 2002! My news is a belated holiday announcement: Aaron and I are engaged! I guess I'll soon be joining the Kim Smith/Karen Brownlee name-change debate club, and am wondering if I'll miss the "Are you related to Pamela?" question :) We haven't set a wedding date yet, but are currently looking at a sunny destination for Winter of 2003--- maybe it'll be good material for a freelance article on Hawaiian weddings! Speaking of freelance, I did a bit of non-traditional freelance writing last fall for a local guy who is trying to get into public speaking. We spent some time putting together his one-page bio, and created some brochures. It was nice to use those rusty layout and writing skills again - and fun to review his video presentation (created with help from Trevor Grant who talked to our Broadcast Class; His company did the Wide Mouth Mason show for CBC). It's a small world! My full-time work is looking a bit different this year as I was recently assigned the Environmental Engineering and Science portfolio. It's a bit of a challenge trying to get my English-thinking brain around the concepts of Science and Engineering but I guess it's going well so far. I just passed my one year probation period at the U of R so am now an official employee - yay! I'm taking a night class this semester too - Admin 210 (Marketing) - but it's no j-school! Anyhow, hope things are well with everyone and I look forward to your 2002 news!

Kristen, Ginette, and Renee are no longer the only ones
I spent the end of July and beginning of August overseas
with my girlfriend Marilyn - a few days in London followed
by a 12-day Contiki tour through Holland, Germany, Austria,
Italy, Switzerland and France.
Europe was amazing - I was absolutely awestruck by the
enormous and beautiful buildings, and they're everywhere!
Churches, museums, galleries, castles-- we even found
department stores with stained glass domes and five
balconies full of shopping! (Maybe not quite as impressive
as the Colosseum or the Eiffel Tower, but hey, I was still
impressed!) Anyhow, it was a fantastic adventure but
exhausting enough that I was ready to come home by the end
of it! And now that I've been home for a week, I can't wait
to go back :)
So that's my big news - the rest of my life seems to be
fairly static. Work at the Co-op Office is still fun - I'm
looking forward to a new round of recruits when September
rolls around, and am already planning trips to visit
students in Calgary and around Saskatchewan later this
fall. I'm also helping to plan a conference to be held
next February in Saskatoon so I'm keeping busy. Home life
is good too - though I'm still waiting for some of you
out-of-towners to come for a visit! Anyhow, hope things are
well with you all--- and I hope to see the locals again soon!
Hi everyone!
Since it's not really a secret, I guess it's high time to post it on our website - I'm baaack!
After eight months in John Gormley Land, I've arrived at my next stop -
the U of R (wait-a-minit - wasn't I here already)?!?
Anyhow, I've bid farewell (for now) to the bright land of radio
journalism and I'm living it up on the dark side! I'm currently working
as a "Marketing Coordinator" in the Co-operative Education office and am
living back in the paradise that is Boardwalk Equities rental housing.
Things are going well so far and I'm very happy to be living near my man
and my little brother again.
So, that's the short version! If you have the fortune/misfortune of
sharing a beer with me in the next little while, I'm sure I'll still
have lots to say about my experience - but for today... that's all
folks! Happy 2001!
Merry Christmas j-friends! From east coast to west and wherever else you may be, I hope you enjoy the holiday season!
Best wishes for the new year!
Work took me to Regina a couple times in the past few weeks. John does the show form CJME every 6 weeks or so to accomodate Regina in-studio guest and to do sales calls and meetings with Regina clients. For me, the trips were great to visit old haunts like CJME, the Student Employment Office, and of course, j-school. Jill and Jim were both around to shoot the breeze for a bit which was great and I see Jim has already posted a note about the "slacker" sked for this year's crop of first-years -- perhaps our martyrdom convinced the school to avoid producing future generations of coffee-dependent, Owl-addicted journalists!!!
Anyhow, that's me for now. Hope things keep going well for the rest of you and hope to hear from you when you're passing through 'toon town!
It's super having Jeff here producing Christina's show! He, Karen (Brownlee), and I chat at least once a week (we now have "producer" conference calls so as to avoid double-booking, etc!). Jeff is doing a great job - and despite his deadly dishwasher - seems to be settling into S'toon life quite nicely - it's great having him around!
I'm finally "officially" settled into my house here - one roomie moved out which landed me my own room (yay!). We have a new roommate however, who is not so welcome -- we've affectionately named him "EEK" but are hoping the exterminator will have him evicted soon!!!
Anyhow, that's news from my world. Bonny B is taking charge as News Director at NTR, Wayne Hudson is man of the newsroom, Tyler McMurchy is "reporter-extraordinaire" and Lindsay Earle is making waves as our newest red-hot intern! It's a regular j-school reunion-in-progress!
Hope everyone keeps "posting us" in touch! Bye for now!
I'm in Saskatoon (as Dave mentioned)... producing John Gormley Live for CJME and NTR. My co-producer, Kris Dickeson, is
fantastic (and she's keeping me somewhat sane in a sometimes crazy job!). Even with my fancy new job title, I'm still getting
screwed by interview "bailers" and unreturned calls... though not quite as often as back in the days of j-studentdom!
Anyhow, that's me for now... I hope to hear from any visitors to Saskatoon (email me since I can't post my phone number)!
Regan is in Saskatoon working with Big John Gormley. She likes the job,
not the early hours and has a little office. I didn't get to talk to her for
very long while she was in Regina this past weekend because she was moving
out of her apartment.
