By Frank Provenzano #324, Alumni Grammateus

Now that I have your attention, I hope that you all are doing well, and this column will be catching you up with what all has been going on with the chapter since the last newsletter.
The membership is now over 30 men, and the chapter has continued to grow steadily, 10 men in Fall 2003 and 4 men each in Spring and Fall of 2004.  Greek recruitment is down nationwide and especially at ISU.
This year, the fraternities decided to formalize rush and have the rushees visit all the fraternities to see which ones they liked the best.  There was a poor turnout of men who chose this option, mainly because structure is not something guys are not used to when it comes to Greek life, and  that we are lazy.  This hurt everyone's numbers overall.  This being said, the chapter is happy with their results, and the motivation behind the new guys is incredible.  There are several men interested in rushing next semester.
Last spring, the chapter sponsored a Kickball Tournament for Alzheimer's Research and it was the first time they tried something like this, so it was a great accomplishment.  They also participated in a campus-wide cancer walk to raise money for cancer research.
Last spring also saw the return of Parent's Weekend that was organized by outgoing senior Steve Fryman #360.

Parents were encouraged to bring gift baskets that were then raffled off.  This netted the chapter over $1200 in donations!  They bought a widescreen TV for the common room with the bulk of that money.
This semester, the chapter took First Place in the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority "Tough Enough" philanthropy.  The event included various contests, like tug 'o war, and the like.  In addition, there was a pop toppers game in which they saved up those little pop toppers from soda and beer cans.  The team in second place in that event got 1,300 pop toppers.  Team TKE

mowed down the competiton with 7,000 pop toppers!
The involved alumni are pleased that the chapter is doing well.  Of course, there are some things that need to be worked on, but time will help iron these issues out.
