SFL Rules


1. The SFL is a keeper league. Each year an auction will be held to complete rosters of any combination of 14 players.

2. A salary cap of 1000 points per team is in effect. Teams must be at or below this cap during the season.(Provided no trades have been made)

3. Players may be waived and free agents signed for 5 points during the season, providing the salary cap is met

4. A waived player costs a prorated amount of salary (i.e. a player who was signed for 200 points is waived after week 7. The player has played half the season (7 out of 14 games = 50%); therefore the team receives 100 points for salary purposes.

5. a)Players to be signed or cut must be phoned or emailed in by 6 pm Tuesday. The team who cut the player must wait a second week before they can pick him up again. If  two teams request the same player, then the the following tie breaker will be used: (1) Team with worst winning percentage (2) Fewest points scored (3) Record against other team(s) (worst) (4) Worst point differential (5) Fewest points scored against the other team (6) Coin flip.

b) Cut players (see 5a above) can be signed for cut price up to Friday 6 pm at cut price to the worst team. After Friday 6 pm it is first call, first served for signings. Players are $5 after friday 6pm. You can email in before Friday and state you want the player for $5 after Fri. 6 pm. Worst team will get him.

c) Example: Al Toon has an original salary of 100 and he is cut by Kardiac half way through the season. His cut price is 50. When he appears on the SFL site (usually Tues.or Wed.) , teams can email up to Friday at 6 pm. The team with the worst record can sign him for 50. After 6 pm Friday, he is first-come, first-serve for 5 points. A player picked up off waivers with a salary of more than 5 has his salary go up to the original amount for next season.

6. a) Players may be placed on injured reserve provided they are listed as OUT or DOUBTFUL, or if they do not play in a game. The player is still paid his salary. Once the player returns or is listed as QUESTIONABLE or PROBABLE, then a roster spot must be created by waiving the returning player or another player.

b)  If a player gets injured in a game, another player can be picked up (see rule 5), however if the injured player is not OUT or DOUBTFUL on the NFL.COM site later in the week, the player picked up must be made available to the next person who called in for him. Commissioner has discretion on such injuries.

7.  A team with an injured QB does not get first chance at the backup. 

8. The regular season is 14 games long, while playoffs are 3 games.

9. The three division winners make the playoffs along with the next three best records.

10. The 2 division winning teams with the best overall records (see Rule 11 below) will receive a first round bye Third division winner will play the worst wildcard team and the remaining two wildcards will play each other. In the second round, The best overall team coming off the bye will play the worst advancing team and the second best team will play the other advancing team (based on regular season records where division winner takes precedence).

11. Tiebreakers are as follows: (1) Winning percentage (2) Points for (3) Record against other team (4) Best point differential (5) Most points scored against other team (6) Coin Flip.

12. It is the owners responsibility to submit a tie breaking lineup of non-starters during playoff games. Non-starters will be compared in ranked order in case of tie (i.e. #1 non-starter vs. #1 non-starter). If no lineup is submitted, then non-starters will be ranked from top of roster to bottom. If tie still exists, Rule 11 will be followed.

13. Players drafted or signed during the year for 5 points and kept the following year will have their salaries raised to 75 points. Players under 75 next year will have salaries raised to 75.  

14. Trade sessions will be held at any time after week 1 to the end of week 10. trades can occur from the summer meeting to auction day.

15. Traded players can have their salaries paid by their new team. Salary can be traded for the next year. Current year salary cap money cannot be traded.

16. Owners must submit a starting lineup to the Commissioner by game time each week. If a lineup is not submitted, then the previous week's lineup will be used.

17. A starting lineup consists of (a maximum) 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 PK.

18. For Thursday and Saturday games - if no call is made and the player started the week before, then he automatically starts the game.

19. No roster moves (except trades - see rule 14) can be in the off season after the auction until after week 1. Entry fee must be paid before any moves are made.

20. Winning team and team with worst record buys a round at following year auction.

21. Teams that have more than 14 players on their roster must cut down to 14 at the end of week 17. Salary does not have to be below $1000.

22. Any owner who does not have his cuts in on time at the start or end of season will forfeit $75 of salary cap money for the upcoming season. (One season only) 
 
23. Lineups, moves, etc. will only be accepted from the owner of the team.  If you won't be around then  plan your lineups ahead of time; otherwise the previous week's lineup will be  used.

24. All SFL related material must be sent to the proper email, otherwise it will not be recognized.
