Lamont Misses Out On International Call Up

Wes Lamont has been overlooked by Bryan Hamilton as a replacement for the injured Tommy Wright and Alan Fettis for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Germany. Hamilton watched Wes during Saturday's defeat at the hands of Glentoran, and although the big keeper was blameless for the goal and displayed impressive command of his area, Grimsby's Aiden Davidson and Wigan's Roy Carroll have been preferred for the vacant slot.

Game Of Two Halves As Coleraine Lose At The Oval

Coleraine's Oval hoodoo continued on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Glentoran in the 1st Premier League match of the season. A first half performance accurately described by Kenny Shiels as "embarrassing" left the visitors 1-0 down and despite a much- improverd 2nd half display, the Bannsiders failed to find an equaliser. Defence Crumbles As Crues Win

Premier League champions Crusaders managed the victory over Coleraine that they failed to achieve in 5 attempts last season with an extra time victory in the 2nd Round of the Wilkinson Sword League Cup. The Bannsiders led 2-0 at half time with goals from McCallion and McCallan and seemed to be cruising to a comfortable win when the visitors scored twice in quick succession at the start of the second half. A further home goal from Surgeon was equalised immediately to send the game into extra time during which Crues scored twice without reply to send their small but voiciferous support home happy. Coleraine Ease Past Moyola

A mouth-watering clash with Crusaders on Tuesday night is Coleraine's rewards for easily disposing of B Division Moyola Park in the First Round of the Wilkinson Sword League Cup. A precisely placed free kick from Greg O'Dowd set the Bannsiders on their way, and second half goals from substitutes Michael Surgeon and Danny Shipp completed a 3-0 victory.

Bannsiders Swamped by Slick Swiss

Coleraine were completely outclassed by Grasshopper Zurich in their UEFA Cup preliminary round second-leg tie at the Showground on Wednesday night. Coleraine trailed 3-0 from the first leg, made little impact throughout the 90 minutes and in the end were fortunate to have kept the scoreline to seven. Grasshoppers, who competed in the Champions' League last season, possessed pace, immense skill and were never unduly troubled. They began the onslaught in the 15th minute when Joel Magnin scored with a sidefooted shot after collecting a perfect ball from Nestor Subiat. Coleraine won their first corner after 20 minutes to an ironic cheer -- but two minutes later they shocked the Swiss with a spectacular goal. Greg O'Dowd scored with a 25-yard lob which goalkeeper Philipp Walker could not prevent from entering the net at the angle of the bar and the upright. Grasshoppers momentarily lost their rhythm but quickly regained it and from then to the finish were in total control, although keeper Wesley Lamont made a series of excellent saves. Antonio Esposito got the second goal in the 27th minute and Augustino Ahinful the third 12 minutes before half-time. It was then a second-half rout made even more painful by Coleraine striker Sammy Shiels (51) and Brendan Aspinall (83) scoring own goals. Grasshoppers' other strikes after the interval came from substitute Avraham Tikva (63) and Hakan Yakin (64).

3-0 Defeat In Zurich

Coleraine can return from their Euro-mission to Switzerland with their heads held high following a battling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Grasshoppers of Zurich. The Bannsiders were 2-0 down at half time, including an own-goal from Brendan Aspinall, prompting fears that the floodgates would open in the 2nd half, but a stout rearguard action - coupled with a penalty save by Wes Lamont kept the score to three at the final whistle.

Sorry United Outclassed by Rampant Coleraine

Coleraine gave themselves the perfect send off for their trip to Zurich with a convinving 3-0 victory over a Manchester United reserve side which included 6 players with first team experience. The Bannsiders outclassed their illustrious opponents in every department with Tommy McCallion outstanding in midfield, and ran out deserved winners with goals from McCallan, Gaston and McAllister.
