The show ,however, wasn't as impressive as it used to be in the previous years. The good thing is that the the organisers have promised to put up a better show next year.

In this section I would cover one good deal which appeared in the Weekly Bridge Tournaments at Lucknow or in a recent tournament with explanations.
This week's deal is from 71st Summer NABC held at San Antonio, Texas recently.

71st Summer NABC just concluded at San Antonio, Texas. Two of he India's Ace players Jaggy Shivdasani & Rajesh Dalal took part in the event. Jaggy reached Semi Finals of SpinGold Knockout teams with Lev's team while Rajesh Dalal finished 26th in the Life Master Pairs. Commendable performances indeed.
This week's deal involves Eric Rodwell ,one of the world's leading player and inventor of support double, and shows that if you give an inch to any expert he takes a mile.
This deal occurred in Grand National Teams, Flight A, Semi Finals and helped Rodwell's team-mates from Florida to an impressive victory.
Rodwell was playing 4 Spades contract as East and received Diamond Ace lead. After which South cashed Club Ace and exited with Club ten!
As we would see later this club play from South was a mistake which allowed Rodwell a trick with his Jack and helped him clinch his contract.
After winning Club Jack, Rodwell thought about distribution. He took Diamond Ace as singleton and knew that North can not hold more than two Hearts. He also gave all three top honours in Hearts to South for bidding 3 Spades else South should have simply played in 4 Hearts.
With this information he set about making life difficult for North.
At trick four he ruffed a club and ruffed a heart for trick five. He entered dummy wih a Spade which was trick six and cashed the remaining top Sapde in dummy for trick seven. Now he ruffed a Heart for trick eight.
North was now left with three Diamonds with Q J and two Clubs with Q. When Rodwell cashed his Spade Ace on trick nine throwing a Heart from dummy North was squeezed in minor suit.
If he throws a Club ,which he actually did, Rodwell would cash Club King and end play North with Diamond Ten. If North threw a Diamond Rodwell would simply give a trick in Diamond and score rest.
The plus 790 resulted in 12 IMP swing for Rodwell's team with the squeeze which is known as Rio De Janerio's Squeeze.
Actually South was at Fault. He should never have cashed Club Ace. The conract would never make if Rodwell had to take Club finesse.
A well played deal anyway by an expert.
