The NIFA is a simulation league that uses the game Front Page Sports: Football Pro 98. The following tutorial is for those new owners who are not familiar with game.

RULES

Trades

1) Trade deadline is WEEK 8. (i.e. Once Week 7 is complete, no trades allowed)

2). A trade may consist of as many players as you want, and can include draft picks....(e.g. two players and a pick for 1 player).

3.) In order for the trade to be confirmed, BOTH parties MUST send in the trade. We might put up a trade form.

4.) All trades must be in at least ONE DAY before gameday. Games are on Wednesdays before trade deadline and Wednesdays and Sundays after trade deadline, so your trades must be in by Tuesday midnight, and after trade deadline Tuesday and Saturday midnight

Roster Moves

1.) You are free to move people up or down on the depth chart any time one day prior to a scheduled game.

2.) You are also free to sign free agents during this time. Any time you sign a free agent, any team with a worse record than yours has one day to claim him. If he is not claimed, then he is yours.

3.) When picking up free agents...BE SURE that you have the space on your 53-man roster. If you don't, then you must send in the name of the player you are dropping before he is picked up.

4.) You may NOT change positions (TE to WR, S to CB, etc.)

Draft

1.) The NIFA Draft will consist of 9 rounds, with the order being decided by the performance of the team during the season. The draft list will be made available shorly after the season is complete.

2.) Further draft details to be released come draft time.

3.) If you know you are going to go over the 53-man roster limit during the draft, then you will be required to make the necessary drops to maintain the 53 spot limit.

Game Plans and Settings

1.) Game Plans: We have all of the game plans of the real NFL teams, and you must choose at least one to run for your team. You may choose a different teams plans for both Offense and Defense. You also have the ability to pick different team settings in each of the categories. If you do not select a team profile, the team you own will be the plan you run. In many leagues I have been in, owners had more success leaving the defaults. Totally up to you!

2.) Settings tell me what you would like to focus on for a particular game...here are the choices:

Run Conservative, Run Balanced, Run Aggressive, Pass Conservative, Pass Aggressive, Pass Balanced

The numbers you put into the categories are all weighed against each other, equalling 100%. So if you were to input 1 for everything, it is equal to entering 5 for everything.

I have actually found that the settings go something like this:

Offensive   Defensive
Sweeps, end round plays and pitches are common. Rush Aggressive
  • Defense plays a "run blitz" game.
  • A lot of LB as well as S blitz's.
  • Defensive unit has an overall aggressive pusuit of players. Over aggressiveness leads to tired players.
Somewhere in between. Rush Balanced
  • Some blitz, some read.
  • Coverage tends to be normal.
"between the tackles", smash mouth type plays.. Rush Conservative
  • defense plays a run "read and react" type defense.
  • coverage tends to back off and group tackle.
Post and Fly patterns mainly to the WR corps. Pass Aggressive
  • Defense plays a "pass blitz" game. A lot of LB and S blitz's.
  • A lot of man-to-man so the safeties can blitz.
  • players tend to get tired quickly.
Crossing patterns, mixing it up between WR, TE and RB Pass Balanced
  • Some blitz, some read.
  • Coverage tends to be normal.
  • more Zone coverages.
Quick slants and passes to RB's in the flat. Pass Conservative
  • defense plays a pass "read and react" type defense.
  • coverage tends to back off and group tackle.

3.) Your plans and settings must be turned in one day prior to your scheduled game

Training Camp

1.) Training camp will be done after the college draft is complete. This is a chance for your players to become better, so be sure to take this seriously.

2.) In order to run training camp, you must give me a table of how you would like your players to train. You get to choose, for each position, what % of training you want to allocate for each skill. Such as this:

WR; SP-10%, AC-15%, AG-10%, ST-10%, SP-20%, EN-10%, IN-20%, DI-5%

You will do this for every position.

3.) You MUST put at least 5% on every position. If you don't their #s will go DOWN close to 5 points!

Well, that's it! Quite the mouthful, but we hope you find it useful! Remember, we are always here to answer questions, so do not be afraid to ask….it could be important!
