Kenneth Griffey Jr. resides in Orlando, Fl with wife Melissa and son Trey Kenneth (1-19-94) and daughter Taryn Kennedy (10-21-95). He graduated from Moeller H.S. in Cincinnati, OH in 1987. Griffey played three years of football and four years of
baseball. He was named major league's baseball Player of the Year in 1986 and '87. Ken was voted Seattle Post-Intelligencer's
Sports Star of the Year for 1989. Also in 1989, Ken Jr. and Ken Sr. became the first father-son combination to play in the Major
Leagues at the same time while Senior was with the Cincinnati Reds. August 31, 1990 marked the first time a father and son have
appeared in the same lineup. Griffey has toured Japan with a group of M.L. All-Stars twice; he was MVP in 1990 and also
participated in 1992. His brother, Craig, plays in the Mariners organization. Following the 1993 season, Griffey took part in the
movie "Little Big League". He received 1994 Celebrity Recognition Award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the A.
Bartlett Giamatti Award from the Baseball Assistance Team (BAT) in recognition of his "caring for fellow citizens". Ken Griffey
Jr. has sponsored Christmas dinners for 350 youngsters from the Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club every December since 1994.
He announced the "Junior's Kids Center" program on January 31, 1996. The program provides tickets every Saturday night for
underprivileged youngsters. He signed his four-year contract extension (1997-2000) in January of 1996. Griffey was selected for the 1996 Mariners Roberto Clemente
Award winner for outstanding community service(88-93). He then began to hit 50 home runs for three years in a row, in but then in 97,in the beggining of the year,he leaped into the wall to catch a fly ball and broke his wrist ewnding his 50 home run season streak. he came back the next year got up to 37 home uns and broke it again swinging because it had not fully recovered, themn returnede the same year to end with 49 home runs. in 1999 he was third in the Major leauge home run race between Griffey, Soasa, and McGwire. He then was traded to Cincanatti for four other players in 2000.
