Mathieu is a skater, a very fast skater. He sould play a more inmportant role for the Red Wings this season. Young. Eager. Energetic. Speed. And more speed. He can play any position and loves the game. His nickname is Dandy. He scored his career high in points last season (17), assist (12) and matched his career high of 5 goals. He got his first career playoff point against Phoenix in Game 2 by scoring a powerplay goal. He also registered a career best four-game scoring streak. Before joining the Red Wings, Mathieu played with the Sherbrooke Faucons, where he led in goals, assists and points in the 1994-95 season. He was ninth in amateur league scoring overall. Dandy was second choice in the 1994 Entry Draft and made his NHL debut at Edmonton on October 8, 1995. His first NHL point was a power play goal on November 2 at Boston. His first assist came in the same month against Los Angeles. His first career two-goal game came in December 1995 at Montreal. Mathieu was the youngest player on the Red Wings team during the 1996-97 season. He had a two game point streak in January and two other two-point streaks during the regular season. Mathieu also assisted on one game-winning goal and played in his first Stanley Cup Championship. He is single and spends his off-season in his hometown of Sherbrooke when he's not playing witth the Red Wings charity softball team. |
