Vyacheslav is the little player who makes big plays. He has an inherent knack for being in the right place at the right time. He loves to score goals. Quiet. Skilled. Tough. Courageous. He play with purpose, poise and discipline. His teammates call him Kozzie. Kozzie was a playoff star last year. He scored one game winning goal against Phoenix, 1 game winning goal and 2 game winning assist against St. Louis, and 2 game winning goals against Dallas. Kozzie showed his early promise when he started in the 1989-90 World Junior Championships, and he was named rookie of the year in the Soviet Elite League. He helped the Russian team win the gold medal in the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle. He also helped win the 1991 and 1994 World Championships and the 1991 Canada Cup. He was drafted into the Red Wings in 1990. In 1993, he posted his career-high eight game point streak. In the 1995 playoffs, he scored the game winning goal of Game 5 against Chicago, at 2:25 of the second over time period to clinch the Western Conference title. In the 1995-96 season, he tied a career high of 73 points and was tied for second on the team for goals (36). In the 1996-97 season, Vyacheslav scored the game winning, power play goal in triple overtime on May 4, against Anaheim. He finished 2rd on the team in goals (23) and was tied for second in game winning goals. Kozzie's impressive 14 point contribution in last year's Stanley Cup repeat is a prime example of his poise under pressure. He always seems to show up at the right moment, late in the game to help is team. Kozlov is single and lives in suburban Detroit. He plays on the Red Wings Charity softball team in the off season and usually visits his hometown of Voskresensk, Russia. |
