The Buffalo Sabres has clinched the seventh seed in the eastern conference. The first round match-up will be against the Ottawa Senators, the second seed team. This will be a tough match-up, but if the Sabres perform well they very well can pull it off and move on to the second round.
2nd Period-The Sabres took control of the game for this period. Being tied 1-1 at the start of the 2nd they came out to play.after having no power play oppurtunities in the first period they came up with three power plays in the second. On the second power play at 11:26 #37 Curtis Brown scored the go ahead goal, this ended his long term goal drought. The assist came by who else other than the captian, #27 Mike Peca. The Sabres still gave Ottawa quite a few power play chances even a 5 on 3 oppurtunity.
3rd Period-The third period was intense.The Ottawa
Senators came out on fire and shooting away. The sabres didnt try for many
scoring oppurtunities. They mainly hung back and played defense. They showed
some power in the third period when they picked up the hitting. The third
period went scoreless but, Hasek made some spectacular saves. Going up
against 41 shots and stopping 40. Mike Peca Made a great save on an empty
net left by hasek when he chased a loose puck and fell to the ground.Buffalo
only putting out 15 shots claimed the first game of the series in a 2-1
victory.
VS
Game 2 Buffalo leads 1-0
1st period-This period was an intense one. Early in the game at :58 #90 Joey Juneau got his first sabres playoff goal after returning from his concussion break. The assists went to #81 Miroslav Satan and #37 Curtis Brown. The period was mainly controlled by the Sabres even though the shots were even 10-10.
2nd period-This period the Senators came out hard and scored a power play goal early in the period off a Sean Mceachern rebound. The assists went to Packell and emmerson.Later on in the period the Senators took the lead for the first time in the series off a Wayne Redden goal. The assist went to Alfredson and Emmerson. This period was a tough break for the Sabres.
3rd Period-This period gave me the willies for the fact the Sabres could not get anything going. They played hard and rough and finally the main guy's #27 Mike Peca and #81 Miroslav Satan came thorugh on a power play.Satan got the goal, and Peca the assist.
OT- The first ot was kinda boring. It was all defense and no offense. The sabres did all they could and held the Sens off.
2nd OT- This was One of the most amazing ot's
I had ever seen. The Sabres started pounding the Sens. They finally won
the game and who else to win other than the top goal scorer #81 Miroslav
Satan. The assist going to #5 Jason Woolley. The Sabres pull off another
victory even though they were outshot 47-39. This gave them 2 game to none
edge in the series.
VS
Game 3 Buffalo leads 2-0
1st Period- The Sabres were Looking to put the Sens in na major whole and #15 Dixon Ward thought he would help when he got his first 1999 playoff goal. The man who got the assist was of course the captain Mike Peca. They played hard this first period and controlled the period almost the whole time.
2nd period-The Sabres came out with no intentions
to let the Sens catch up and started shooting even more.at 7:47 #19 Brian
Holzinger got a goal for his team to put them up 2-0. The assists went
to #3 James Patrick and #5 Jason Wooley. Not much longer at 12:33 the Sabres
went on the power play and off the face-off Miroslav Satan passed over
to Jason Woolley who fired a hard shot at the net, and Brian Holzinger
was there for the redirection at the goalie and put it in.This pretty much
putting the game out of reach for the Sens since Buffalo has the Dominator
between the pipes. 3rd Period- Not much happened here. The Sabres hung
back played Defense and let The Dominator handle the rest. They managed
to drive down and put a couple shots on Rhodes but didnt try very hard.
This victory gave them a 3-0 series lead and statistics show that the Sens
pretty much have no shot at the second round, this may even be a 4 game
sweep. This is an upset in the making, well that is what ESPN and the NHL
say.
VS
Game 4 Buffalo leads 3-0

For the first time in the series the Sabres did not score in the first five minutes. But at 8:29 #9 Erik Rasmusson put one on for the Sabres off a reboundshot by #25 Vaclav Varada, and the other assist going to #22 Wayne Primeau. Then not even two minutes later #25 Vaclav Varada got his second point of the game by putting yet a second goal on the board for the Sabres. The assists coming from #27 Mike Peca and #15 Dixon Ward.
2nd Period-This period started off slow but then turned into a shootout. The Sens put one up at 6:24 This goal coming from Jason York and the assist going to Alfredson. Then a little over three minutes later Buffalo fired back with another goal of their own. This one coming at 9:30 and getting his third point of the game #25 Vaclav Varada got this one two. But who else to get the assist than #15 Dixon Ward and once again #27 Mike Peca. Then a short time later at 10:42 the Sens got another goal scored by Sean Mceachern. Even though it became a shootout the Sabres still had the lead 3-2.
3rd Period-Early in the period Buffalo tried to
put the game away with a power play goal scored by #44 Alexei Zhitnik.
Hasek was a brilliant goaltender throughout the game and the series. He
let one more go by at 14:24 scored by Emmerson, but the Sens could not
get any more and couldn't dominate the dominator and the Sabres won 4-3.
This 4-3 victory marks a round 1 SWEEP.
