Franchise Players
Each NFFL team may tag one and only player as its "Franchise Player."
The franchise player is the only player on the roster who can be resigned to additional contracts once the initial contract has expired past his draft year or free agent acquisition.
Salaries for players signed to "franchise player" contracts will be doubled. $10 for one season, $20 for two seasons, and $30 for three seasons. Although he can be resigned an indefinite number of times, each individual contract may still not exceed three years.
In order for a team to drop the franchise player tag from a player and move it to a new player, the owner must first release the original franchise player from his roster. Once the original franchise player is no longer on his team, a new player may be tagged wih the franchise player status.
A franchise player may be released at any time without penalty
An owner may trade a player under a franchise player contract. The accepting team assumes the current salary of that player for the current year and future years understanding that he has been signed under franchise player status and at double the cost. The accepting team must honor the conditions of the "franchise player" contract. The owner can not retain his original franchise player and accept this new player as well as both will be signed to franchise player contracts which is in violation of the rule. If accepting a franchise player in a trade, the accepting team must not have another player signed to a franchise player contract. He must first release his current franchise player or trade away his current franchise player.
