Draft Weekend

As promised, GM Mike Milbury made some big transactions June 24th, the day of the entry draft. Already armed with the #1 pick overall thanks to the NHL lottery, "Mad Mike" was determined to make this team better as he orchestrated 3 key trades. The first was with the Tampa Bay Lightning, as Milbury traded popular G Kevin Weekes along with prospect D Kristian Kudroc and a 2nd round pick in 2001 in exchange for the 5th pick overall.
Most Islander fans believed that the Isles had a strength in goal, and that if there was to be a trade involving that position at least one of Weekes or phenom G Roberto Luongo would remain, with more leaning towards Luongo. There were rumors, but Isles fan were shocked to find out that the second deal of the day would see Milbury trade away Luongo along with C Olli Jokinen to the Florida Panthers for enigmatic C Oleg Kvasha and young sniper RW Mark Parrish.
