Cronk’s CommentWelcome everyone to the 2001 Autumn season of indoor soccer with the mighty Lunatiks. A summer break has allowed all the players to rest and recuperate, and lose some fitness in the process. But we're back and ready to give it a go again. So far we've faced three grading games, the highlight being last week's epic against Valhalla. Our first game pitched us against a team of mostly middle-aged and inexperienced players. It was sad to see their enthusiasm turn to frustration as we put 12 past them, while only conceding 3 ourselves. The next game was more challenging. Missing Norm, and with Des our Scottish import filling in capably, we ended up winning 6-5, which was possibly a flattering scoreline for our opposition. The Tiks were not looking as tight in defence as we are accustomed to. The first half of the match against Valhalla was heartening. But with waning fitness in the second half, the Tiks' defence opened up, giving Valhalla too much undeserved space. We can only hope the Tiks' defensive game can improve pretty soon. A stronger defence will be needed as we return to Division 3 and play against more formidable opposition every week. Hopefully our fresh enthusiasm will carry us through our first few games, which could be testy given our current lack of match-practice and fitness.Go Tiks!

"HO HO HO, and a bottle of rum" sing the Tiks as they march into Division 2 at Box Hill. Or should that be a case of rum?
After winning 7/8 games so far this season, the staff at boxhill, in their boundless wisdom, have deemed the Lunatiks worthy of playing in highest division, in the current format, of indoor soccer available at the Box Hill Indoor Stadium. Which by the way, is widely recognised as the best indoor soccer league in Melbourne.
But enough of the future, let me now speak of our last match Vs. "Brothers". In what was expected to be a tight match, the Tiks showed just how much they have improved in recent games. After a tight first half, and the scores locked at 2-2, Cronk came out blazing in the second half, a combination of fine team passing and awesome finishing from Cronk, saw him put us ahead. From the re-start Cronk ran forward applying pressure, intercepted the ball, and buried it into the back of the net. Brothers did not recover, and a succession of goals from Norm, Horse, and Cronk again, blew out the winning margin.
The Tiks played a smart match, and were rewarded with a fine victory. It was through solid defence that we were able to score on the counterattack, and ensure victory without putting ourselves in danger of being caught and overhauled, as in the past. All in all, a very satisfying season so far, and hopefully we can have more success in Division 2. And how satisfying it is to hear the DON speak so eagerly of our venture into div 2, when only a little
while ago, it was his suggestion to belittle ourselves in a "more appropriate" division such as div 6 or 7.
Horse OUT
The lunatiks have looked sharp all season, and without sounding overconfident, have managed to deal well with whatever opposition and situation we have been presented with. What remains to be seen, is when the season proper begins, can we continue to keep our cool and capitalise on the great start that we have had? I think so.
Let's go Tiks and make this the big one.
HORSE out.
