Don't listen to the weather man
The Morgan County Bass Anglers held their first tournament of the year today on Watts Bar
and well, it was
awful. 13 pounds won it but 3 pounds was in the money and 29 boats produced 16 fish. I had
one on this day when the snow got so deep in my boat that I had to dig my rods out and one
participant showed up at weigh in with a snow man on his boat. Fishing on Watts Bar is slow!
This six pound largemouth came out of
Chickamauga last spring. He took a spook on a main river point.
This four pound smallie took a
chart/white spinner bait last year on thanksgiving day. As you can tell by my dress it
was cold. The hight temp for the day was in the mid 30's and we were on the lake in the
early morning fog. The fish was on a Watts Bar main channel bank on the Kingston end of the
lake.
To the right is one of my fishing partners, Alvin
the trash fish king. He landed this 10 pound striper last winner on one of our outings.
Alvin is always good for a strip, drum, bluegill or even an ocassional carp. Alvin is the
only person I know that can catch carp on a rattle trap.
This was my first 5+ pounder. It came from Sardis Lake in Miss. and took a pig and jig at
the end of a furious half hour of fishing. Two to four pound fish were taking slug-gos
off a shallow grass point on nearly every cast for about a half hour. When the action
stopped I noticed a hugh stump next to the boat. I picked up the jig, pitched it in and
caught this fish. I probably caught 15 nice fish in a half hour without moving the boat.
Why can't they bite like this everyday?
OK, I catch
trash fish to from time to time but if they look like this who cares. This 40 pounder was
caught on a jug baited with a 5" shad. This is my dad with me. Hi Dad! This fish came from
the far upper end of Watts Bar lake.
