Business Contributions to Structural Engineering Firms
Knighton and Crow P.C.
As an entry level engineer, I was hired to work in the new South Ogden branch office that was in its first year of operation. I was assigned to work on projects with established clients. Within a few months, I was finishing my assigned projects on budget thus adding to the profits of the office and company. By the end of my first year out of school, I was being assigned to work on projects with only minimal supervision from the licensed engineers that worked in the office. I was also being assigned to work with several new clients to increase the client base of the company.
J.M. Williams and Associates, Inc.
I spent two years as a staff engineer with this company before returning to school to earn my MBA degree. During this time I played an active role in setting goals for the company in the Provo/Orem office and improving the financial position of the office from having the first profitable year during my first year with the company to being the company office with the most revenue by the year I returned to school. During this time I played an important role by servicing several new clients that are now an important part of the company clientele adding to the increased revenue and profitability of that office.
Other Business Experience
Brigham Young University Business Plan Competition - College Liaison Director
During the past semester of school I have served on the student committee for the Business Plan Competition at Brigham Young University. This was the first time that this competition was run by a student committee. One of the goals of this year's competition was to expand from a business school competition to a campus wide competition. My role on this committee was to work with the College of Engineering and Technology and Department of Computer Science to get students from those programs involved in the competition. I contributed to help make this year's competition the biggest and best in the ten year history of the event. A total of 58 teams registered to compete in the competition, representing almost every college on campus. This year $52,500 in prizes were awarded to nine teams, including $12,000 in prizes that were awarded to two teams with plans based on technology transfer ideas from the College of Engineering.
