It took two hours and forty-three minutes as well as overtime for the Chicago Bulls to come out on top of Game One of its series with the New Jersey Nets. Chicago edged the Nets 96-93.
New Jersey's Keith Van Horn was suffering the effects of a stomach virus, which allowed him to play only 14 mintues. Van Horn was visibly shaken. Obviously, we hope Van Horn begins feeling better, but were he able to play, I might be relaying this recap to you in a much different fashion. Glad I'm not, eh? Me too.
There is one image from this game that will not leave my mind, and that is the image of Michael Jordan executing an absolutely thunderous dunk on Kendall Gill near the end of the game. That three point play was a big part in putting the Bulls over the top for the win in the first installment of this series. Jordan finished with 39, doing a good part of his damage from the free throw line.
Forward Dennis Rodman did not have a good game Friday, securing only 8 rebounds and no points. Conversely, his New Jersey foe Jayson Williams pulled down 21 boards. That matchup will likely sway a bit more towards Rodman's favor when he takes it upon himself to pick it up a notch.
Unquestionably, this series kicked off with a heck of a game, something many NBA fans did not expect. Will the Nets continue to challenge the champs as seriously in the remainder of the series? To get the scoop, continue to visit Air Time.
