Given that the Australian Media only shows a passing interest in track and field, the Web is the lifeline for anyone wanting to follow the sport. Below are some of the most informative sites around. The links are in sections which you can "leap" to from here:
Organisations, Statistics, Magazines & News Sites, event-specific stuff, Other Clubs and the miscellaneous sites we couldn't find a category for. If want to see what other interests we have outside athletics check out the links Tönza has plonked on the Sandy site.
Feel free to email us with any cool links you find. Also check out the links pages on many of these sites.
ORGANISATIONS - The official homepages of the "powers that be".
Athletics Victoria - The folk responsible for most of the competitions our athletes compete in. A good source of results and competition information. And if you wanna start a webpage for your club talk to Tim.
Athletics Australia - The next step up. You can find all the info you need on qualifying standards for various Australian teams. Also fun to play on the past results search engine to see if the legends around your club really did win at the Empire Games in Perth.
IAAF - The big daddy of athletics bureaucracy. This is the site for official Grand Prix and Champs results. Usually some interesting articles on here too. And lately has get into rankings and world lists
STATS GALORE - The sites that will see you able to spout useless facts better than Bruce McAvaney
TILASTOPAJA -This was the best site goin' round for getting up date to world lists. Still is, but you have to pay for most of it now. IAAF site seems just as quick these days.
Alltime Lists - This Swedish dude is super quick to tell you that the Marion Jones has just ran the 7th fastest 100m of all-time (and that she owns six of the Top Ten).
Records - Want to find out the Chilean men's Pole Vault record, the Maltese women's discus record, or just the plain old men's 400m WR? This page has them all and more...
Age records - This one's wacky too. Find out the fastest 18yr old over 800m and longest jump ever by a 35yr old.
World records for lanes - What a concept! This site ain't pretty but you've gotta love the guy for caring.
MAGAZINES AND OTHER NEWS SITES- A number of old faves are on-line
Track and Field News - You can find out what the issue you'll see in Aussie newsagents in a few months time looks like. This site has quite a few results, particularly early in the year, and quite a good set of links.
Runner's world and Australian Athlete - The home of Australian Athlete magazine, featuring the latest athletics news from around Australia and the world. This site (and the magazine) has improved dramatically in recent months... and they keep publishing pictures of Bayside athletes.
Cool Running (Australia) - E-zine with breaking news stories. Well worth checking out regularly. Has a large number of Australian links.
Track and Field Athletics Online - This site has evolved dramatically over time to become very professional looking.
EVENTS - For those of you who are narrow-minded...sorry focussed.
Throws - US Site with info galore.
400m/800m - This Aussie guy has some theories...
High Jump
Hurdles - Profiles and pics rather than coaching tips.
Javelin - This one looks super-impressive, even to a jellyarm such as myself.
Jumping in General
Runner's Web
OTHER CLUBS - We ain't the only ones out here... just the nicest...
Greater Boston Track Club - This is a huge web site with lots of up-to-date links.
Box Hill, Old Scotch, Eureka, Traralgon Harriers, APSOCAAA, SCTAC - A few other Victorian Clubs (and a Canberra mob) we will be endeavouring to outdo both in cyberspace and on the track.
Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club - An English Club any travellers may want to check out.
MISCELLANEOUS - Couldn't work out what headings to put these under...
Decathlon Points - Work out how much your PBs add up to. Also one here for Heptathlon.
