Red Wings 1st "UNDEFEATED" Youth Inline Champions

Champions in the Youth Inline Division, with a dramatic 5-4 win over the Avalanche, on November 13, 1996, in the 1st ever Fall Youth Inline League. The Red Wings opened the scoring on an awesome passing play with Mat Grinchell scoring on an assist from Pat McIntyre. Gregg Ellinwood would up the lead 5 minutes later with an individual rush past 3 Avalanche players and a perfect fake on Goaltender David Petronelli. A Red Wing miscommunication with just 4 seconds left in the period allowed the Avalanches Mike Nye to go in alone on Goalie Bruce Cassidy, who never had a chance. Mike's goal was assisted my Chris Manteufell. In the 2nd period, both teams had chances but the only goal would be scored by Pat McIntyre, assisted by Gregg Ellinwood. In the 3rd , it only took the Avalanche's Nye one minute to close the gap with an end to end rush. That goal seemed to wake up the Red Wings as Ellinwood would score 2 goals in 1:06 to give the Red Wings a seemingly comfortable lead. The Avalanche had other ideas, however, as Norm Marchand, assisted by Brian Calci, and Nye, unassisted would score to make it a 1 goal game with just 1:24 remaining. From this point the Red Wing defense took over, allowed no shots on goal and the celebration was on. Gregg Ellinwood was named playoff M.V.P., and the Red Wings Steven Sweet, with 11 goals and 28 assist, became the 1st Youth/Junior player in League history to win the scoring title with more assist than goals. Tammy Cassidy also became the 1st female in C.S.H. L. history to play on a Championship team. The league would like to thank all the Coaches and Players who made this 1st Fall League a success, and again Congratulations to the Red Wings Coaches, John Pagliarulo, Bruce Cassidy, Rick Grinchell and Rich Corrente and the Players, Jason Colgan, Pat McIntyre, Chris Pareseau, Steven Sweet, Bruce Cassidy Jr., John Lagasse, Mat Grinchell, Gregg Ellinwood, Mike Ando, Tammy Cassidy and Bobby Klees Jr.
