First Pack Comments: Hey, how about that? An insert and a base card I needed for my set, for me that's an amazing first pack. (NOTE: I did not cherrypick by boxes for the first packs, but Vanguard is ridiculously easy to cherrypick, so beware ...)

Not a bad box at all. First of all, I hit the longshot red parallel, which was nice. The parallels in general in this box were great: Brodeur, Amonte, Hasek. When Tony Amonte is the worst parallel you get in a box, something's gone very right!
The memorabilia was OK. I really like the Modano/Hatcher dual jersey, Modano for obvious reasons, but to pair him up with one of the best defensive defensemen in the game makes for a very nice dual. The Savard/Turek ... well I'm not especially thrilled about that. Savard is a good player, but Turek ... ugh .. watching Turek makes my head hurt. Pulling a Turek jersey does not rank high on my list of hopes.
The regular inserts were OK. I was kinda disappointed that through 2 boxes I didn't hit any of the long shot inserts (Stonewallers/East meets West), but I did get Brodeur and Huselius inserts which are nice and Roenick's card is good as well (even though he's dipped off a bit in the hobby).
But the parallels are the big story here. All of solid, superstar players. Mix in a very nice inserts and one decent dual jersey and it makes for a good box. Not the best I've ever cracked, but not the worst either. One I can definately live with.
And like I always say when talking about 01-02 Vanguard, DON'T BUY SINGLE PACKS OR OPENED BOXES ... the inserts and jerseys are pathetically easy to pick out, you'll be left only with the chance of a rookie or a parallel, and that probably won't be worth what you'll pay. Stick to the sealed boxes when dealing with Vanguard.
