After seeing them very recently, i recognzied that many of their songs require TWO guitars normally with a capo on Samson's, and Carroll's without. But in anycase i hope you enjoy this tab whomever you are. I'd had about 90% of the song figured out from before i saw them live, and afterwards i can honestly say this is almost EXACTLY the way John plays it. You can finger pick it, like John does, or if you prefer (which i do) play with a pick. Oh, and as for the chord names, i'm sorry about that- i'm terrible with the names. I know personally (i think J.K.S as well) plays the second chord in the verses by using the middle finger on the low e. It makes it easier to mute the a as well. Also the second chord in the chorus, it's a bit of a stretch, but just bar from the a string and down, that'll make it easier to play. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chord Table |----------------------------------------| |verses chorus bridge | |0244xx x141xx 424xxx | |4x44xx 0221xx 224xxx | |2x44xx 212xxx 024xxx | |----------------------------------------| Intro / Verses: "my city's still breathing but barely it's true" e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g-----------4-----------4----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4------- d-----4-----------4-----------4----------4-----------4-----------4------------- a--2-----2-----2-----2--------------------------------------------------------- e--------------------------4-----4----4-----4-----2-----2-----2-----2---------- CHORD 1 CHORD 2 CHORD 3 continued e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g-----------4-----------4------------------------------------------------------ d-----4-----------4------------------------------------------------------------ a------------------------------------------------------------------------------ e--0-----0-----0-----0--------------------------------------------------------- CHORD 4 Repeat back to 1 Go straight into the chorus after the 4th chord in the verses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chorus: "i'm back with scars to show" e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g-----------4-----------4-----------1-----------1-----------4-----------4------ d-----4-----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4------------ a--------------------------1-----1-----1-----1-----2-----2-----2-----2--------- e--4-----4-----4-----4--------------------------------------------------------- CHORD 1 CHORD 2 CHORD 3 continued e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g-----------1-----------1------------------------------------------------------ d-----2-----------2----------------------------2-----------2------------------- a--------2-----------2-------------------1-----------1------------------------- e--0-----------0----------------------2-----2-----2-----2---------------------- CHORD 4 Repeat / Outro "they'll never take me anywhere but" Go straight into the bridge after the outro. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bridge: "all this time" e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g------------------------------------------------------------------------------ d-----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4-----------4------ a-----2-----------2-----------2-----------2-----------2-----------2------------ e--4-----4-----4-----4-----2-----2-----2-----2-----0-----0-----0-----0--------- CHORD 1 CHORD 2 CHORD 3 continued "who's left and who's leaving" e------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b----------------------------------------------------------------------------- g------------3--------------------------------3------------------------------ d--------2---------------------------------4---------------------------------- a-----1---------------------------------4------------------------------------- e--2---------------------------------2----------------------------------------- Out 1 OR Out 2 I can't decide which is a better out..i'm pretty sure i remember seeing John use the first one, but i think the second one sounds better. The sidewalks are watching me think about you, all sparkled with broken glass. I'm back with scars to show. Back with the streets I know. They never take me anywhere but here. Those stains in the carpet, this drink in my hand, these strangers whose faces I know. We meet here for our dress-rehearsal to say " I wanted it this way" and wait for the year to drown. Spring forward, fall back down. I'm trying not to wonder where you are. All this time lingers, undefined. Someone choose who's left and who's leaving. Memory will rust and erode into lists of all that you gave me: some matches, a blanket, this pain in my chest, the best parts of Lonely, duct-tape and soldered wires, new words for old desires, and every birthday card I threw away. I wait in 4/4 time. Count yellow highway lines that you're relying on to lead you home.
