Dream Team

On Saturday, January 12, 1985, the Canadiens' all-time "dream team" was honoured in a special ceremony at the Montreal Forum. The event coincided with the team's 75th anniversary.

More than 20,000 ballots were tabulated to name the members of the team. The fans selected:

  • Goalie Jacques Plante, who played on five straight Stanley Cup winners from 1956 to 1960 and captured seven Vezina Trophies.
  • Defenceman Doug Harvey, eleven times an NHL all-Star.
  • Defenceman Larry Robinson, twice a winner of the Norris Trophy.
  • Centre Jean Beliveau, an extraordinary playmaker and scorer for 18 seasons.
  • Left winger Dickie Moore, a fierce competitor and two-time NHL scoring champion in the late 1950s.
  • Right winger Maurice Richard, who scored 544 regular-season goals and was the first NHL player to score 50 goals in 50 games.
  • Toe Blake, who guided the Habs to eight Stanley Cups in 13 seasons, was named coach of the dream team.

The second team:

  • Goalie Ken Dryden
  • Defenceman Serge Savard
  • Defenceman J. C. Tremblay
  • Centre Henri Richard
  • Left winger Toe Blake
  • Right winger Guy Lafleur
  • Coach Scotty Bowman
  • Special gues Aurel Joliat, then 83 and the oldest living former Hab.
