What is a Pack?
A Pack is a group of Cub Scouts, adult leaders and parents who draw there
membership from an elementary school or church that is associated with the
Pack's Chartered Organization. The Pack is made up of Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear and
Webelos Dens.
How is my son's rank determined and when can he join?
Your sons rank is determined by his grade in school.
He can join at any time, but he will need to finish the Bobcat badge before he
can earn the appropriate badge for his rank. The Bobcat badge can be completed
in a weekend.
Where and when are Pack Meetings? How long do they last?
The Pack meets once a month in the Imogene Gideon elementary cafeteria. They
begin at 7:00 and last approximately 1-1.5 hours. During the Pack meeting the
Cubmaster will distribute badges and pins to recognize the Scouts achievements.
They will also have an opportunity to share some activity that they have enjoyed
during the month. All scouts will have a responsibility to help set up a meeting
and lead a flag ceremony at least twice during the year. In addition, the
Cubmaster will have a special visitor or activity or game for the entire pack to
enjoy.
Does my son need a uniform and where do I buy it?
The pack requires an official Shirt and kerchief with a kerchief slide (homemade
or bought). It will be useful to have a belt for 'belt loop' achievements. We
understand the demands of modern life, but respectfully request that boys attend
Pack meeting in appropriate attire (no sweat suits, sports uniforms; shirts
tucked in) that is neat and clean. Neat appearance is very important to Pack
discipline and a sense of self-pride. Uniforms can be purchased at the Scout
Shop (in Arlington).
How often and where are Den Meetings?
Den meetings are when the Dens get together for activities and field trips. The
schedule and location is decided by individual dens. The frequency is usually
once a week. The activities might include leathercraft, woodcraft, learning
Indian lore, making masks or preparing a skit. Field trips might include a visit
to the fire-station or to a local state historic park or university. The Den
meeting is a great time to help the boys work toward achievements they might not
be able to do at home.
Are the parents required to attend Den meetings and Pack meetings?
The more parents, the better! Scouting is a family activity and like any
activity that we organize for our children's growth and enjoyment, parent
involvement is very important.
Can younger siblings attend Pack meetings?
Yes, but we respectfully ask that their behavior be controlled and noises be
kept to a minimum. We will have an area at the back of the meeting room with
tables and coloring books for youngsters to use to help keep them occupied. You
will need to monitor your own children. Sitters are not provided.
