JAMmie Dodger: Official Cocktail of The JAMAt least, that was the conclusion of a select panel of judges at Saturday's Performance Enhancing JAM. After tasting four newly created cocktails, they selected the JAMmie Dodger as the official cocktail of The JAM. In an effort to more closely align The JAM with other great American sporting spectacles that feature their own signature cocktails, JAM Commissioner Mike Campoli requested that this year's JAM participants submit proposals for a JAM cocktail. Four brave and alcoholic spirits -- Mike Balducci, Jag Bath, Pher Hale and Brad Sherman -- took him up on this challenge, with mixed results. Sherman submitted the first drink, called The JAM Master Gay and containing an obscene amount of Campari. However, relying on a cool name and the similar spellings of Campoli and Campari were not enough to overcome a harsh taste that caused all of the judges to spit out the drink in disgust. Determined to prove a point, Sherman, who claimed the drink was too sophisticated for the judges' American tastes, consumed all of the drinks that he mixed, which resulted in a brief nap on the lawn. Next came Hale's Tailgate, an interesting blend of Gatorade, Red Bull, vodka and tequila that was designed to invoke the taste and feeling of an outdoor sporting event. The drink was strong on creativity and f#c&-up-ability, but the secret ingredient -- Mike and Ed's Buffalo Wing Sauce -- proved to be its downfall. Although it tasted better than The JAM Master Gay, the judges agreed that they never wanted to experience that again. At that point, the judges -- a distinguished and experienced panel consisting of Campoli, Chris Crowley, Chris Spellman and Matt "Skinny Guy" Fornabaio -- feared that the contest would be a complete failure. But then Bath came to the rescue and allowed The JAM to dodge such an ill fate. With a pleasant blend of various rums and fruit juices, plus a pinch of nutmeg, The JAMmie Dodger proved just the tonic for the evening's event. All four judges awarded the JAMmie Dodger, which is named after a popular British biscuit made from shortbread and raspberry flavored plum jam, their top marks for taste, and most appreciated the name as well. The only thing standing in its way was Balducci's potent entry, which contained strawberry puree, orange juice, club soda and a large amount of vodka. Although TNT garnered higher marks for taste than did the first two entries, and it packed a powerful punch, the judges could not overcome the feeling that they just wanted to put it down and finish their JAMmie Dodger instead. |
