Week 5 NFL Picks Here's a week where I really can't get myself too excited about football, given the fact there there could potentially be four elimination games going on in the Divisional Series on Sunday and that I am going to be attending Game 4 of the Yanks/Twins Sunday (also known as the "Watch Santana Shut Down The Yanks For An Entire Game This Time" game)! Still, there's picks to be made and more importantly, fantasy seasons to save. Last week's stellar 12-2 record, worth 100 out of 105 points in my picks pool, has vaulted me into 3rd overall, a mere 11 points out of first! Without further adieu...the week 5 picks, going in ascending order of confidence. Detroit at San Francisco- Detroit
* denotes this is my official Loser Pool Pick of the Week. Divisional Series Predictions Red Sox vs. A's: Probably the most even matchup of the four playoff series. this one will probably see the scoreboard operator put in some OT (even with Pedro, Hudson, and Zito in this series). Can either bullpen lock stuff down? I don't think so. I'm giving the slight edge to the Red Sox, mainly because they have a mashing offense and that Martinez guy who had another season with an ERA in the low 2s. Red Sox in 4. Marlins vs. Giants: How did this happen? The Marlins? Weren't they a candidate for contraction or at least relocation? Crazy. Way too much Giants in this series...the Marlins will be lucky to be ahead for more than 5 innings total in this series. Bonds is on a mission, and not many people can stop that guy. Giants in 3. Cubs vs. Braves: It's pretty obvious Fox wants the Cubs to make it all the way, as they're the big money maker. Hell, they knocked the Yanks out of the Tuesday prime time slot...no small feat! Here's your "does good pitching beat good hitting" series- not saying the Braves don't have good pitching, but their offense is stacked. The Cubs get to toss out Wood and Prior...this is going to be a sweet series. In the end though, I'm going to say Braves in 5. Twins vs. Yanks: So what if the Yanks have won 13 straight against the Twins? So what if the last time the Twins beat the Yanks was over two years ago? This series isn't going to be the romp that the NY crowd expects, but the Yanks are out to prove last year's ALDS loss was a big fluke. The last time most people saw the Twins, they were busy giving up a 10-spot to the Angels in Game 5 of the ALCS, and they're out to erase that. Call me a homer, but I'm saying Twins in 4 in this one...with the Yankees' win coming in Game 3 in the Metrodome. |
