Hello, and welcome to the Ohlund Zone, the first webpage featuring
the Canucks outstanding rookie, Mattias Ohlund. Ohlund has made an
impression with the Canucks since his very first game in Nagano, Japan,
and has quickly risen up to become the Canucks #1 defensemen. With great
hockey sense, a low hard shot, and a bone-crunching body check, Ohlund
will surely be going places.
First off, forgive the latness of this update. There has been a lot of
interest showing in this page, and I will try to keep it more up todate.
Mattias Ohlund is a candidate for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the leagues
top rookie. His competition is Boston sniper Sergei Samsanov, and suprising
New Jersey Devils forward Patrick Elias. Mike Johnson of the Toronto Maple
Leafs, who tied for first in rookie scoring this season, was suprisingly
not selected as a finalist.
Ohlund finished up the Canucks season strong, with 7 goals, 23 assists,
and a strong +3 +/- rating on a team knowing for it's weary defense.
Brian McCabe will provide help on the defensive side, but Ohlund will still
be relied upon for the majority of the defensive responsibility. The likelihood
of Jyrki Lumme signing on with another team will mean Ohlunds responsibilities
will become even greater.
