Black and Gold Review

In what has become an annual tradition, the Black and Gold exhibition game was held this past Saturday in front of a semi-packed house at the Pyramid. The men's team featured the familiar and the not so familiar, Rory ??, and was a much more organized affair than midnite madness. While I did not get to watch the entire scrimmage, talking to too many different people, a few observations can be made.

1. Antrone Lee did not play because of food poisening. He should be back on the court in no time.

2. Charles O'Neal was not suited up, although he was in attendance.

3. Jared Frey did not suit up, nagging injury problems, even if suited up, don't see how he will get anything more than garbage time this season.

4. Ron Johnson looked very, very , very good. He gave Tommie all he could handle, which is not degrading Tommie in any way. Both of these guys looked like they could start. Poses interesting decision for the Wayner come mid-December as to who gets the majority of the back-up minutes. Make no mistake, Charles O'Neal is the starter.

5. A walk-on by the name of Rory ???, transfer from Hawaii, appeared to be 6'7" or 6'8" 215-225 lbs, may make the team. Didn't look too bad.

6. James Delone looked very very very good. He may the sleeper for this years team. Explosive leaper that looked bigger than his 6'2" listed height. Played like he is 6'5" 6'6". Interesting to see how, and if, the Wayner integrates him into the offense.

7. Mate, Rock, D'Cean will be there at the start of the season, count on them being the foundation, at least during the 1st 9 games.

8. Richie, has the longest arms I think that I have ever seen!! he may be 6'9", but I bet his wingspan is that of a seven footer!!. May be pushed around by heavier players, but can run the floor like a gazelle.

9. Luckily for Ian Milley he will only be needed to body up bigger players and grab boards with the collection of scorers that we have amassed.

10. Although I did not see it, supposedly Allan Gomez was burying his shots. He still fires the ball low on his shoulder, which may be rejected a few times during the season.

11. L'Sean Howard...who cares until next season (looked good though!)
