Former UCLA basketball player Travis Reed has signed a financial-aid agreement to play at Long Beach State, although the signing does not bind him to the 49ers.
"All I can say is that we are involved in the recruiting," Long Beach State men's basketball coach Wayne Morgan said Wednesday. "I can't comment any further."
Reportedly, Reed, a 6-foot-8 forward who played two seasons for the Bruins before deciding to transfer, has also visited Oklahoma, where he signed a similar financial-aid agreement.
Student-athletes may sign more than one financial-aid agreement but are not bound to any particular school until they attend their first class. School starts at Long Beach State on Aug. 30.
Reed, who prepped at Fontana High and Crenshaw High, had considered Long Beach State before signing his letter of intent at UCLA. With the Bruins, Reed played in 27 games his freshman year and 31 games last season, starting just seven in the two years. He averaged 4.0 points a game as a freshman, 5.4 points as a sophomore.
If Reed does wind up at Long Beach State, he would redshirt the coming season before becoming eligible for the 2000-2001 season.
