[Newcastle programme]

CHAIRMAN'S EDITORIAL

Dear Fellow Supporters,

Welcome back from Spring break. I hope you are all suitably rested and ready for some serious drinking (I never could spell thinking). Our fame is finally spreading. The programme is now being sent to supporters in England and three copies have been requested from a Vancouver Island fanatic. It would be good to get more input so that the views of a wider audience could be expressed. Perhaps Nobby and Surfer Sam will get the ball rolling and we will eventually be receiving e-mall and readers letters from around the globe. Members who regularly attend meetings can give contributions directly to the Chairman for future inclusion. As promised we are including the team sheet from the Newcastle game in 1910.

All the best,

The Chairman

LATICS IN EUROPE

Shot-shy Latics say “Ciao” to their European dream

When Athletic finally bowed out of the Anglo-Italian Cup they had the satisfaction of knowing that they had the best defensive record of all the 16 teams in the competition. Although they conceded only one goal they failed to progress to the semi-finals. In the final game they held Serie B leaders Genoa to a goalless draw in the magnificent Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Their inability to find the net was the eventual downfall, although the result was commendable in the fact that eight of the players who finished the game were 22 or under. Even Montella, Genoa's 12 goal leading marksman, could not break down the resolute Athletic defence. Paul Gerrard (see picture) pulled off two fine saves to deny the Italians. The game was watched by a gate of only 1,200.

BLUE NEWS

Recent results have seen the team drop into the relegation zone as third from bottom. On 16th. March the lads returned to their winning ways with a convincing 3-1 win over Leicester City who are still in with a shout for a play-off place. A worrying statistic was the fact that a dismal crowd of only 5,582 were there to witness it. Richardson sealed the win with an 88th. min. penalty when the score was 2-1. Last Saturday the boys travelled to top of the league Sunderland and they inflicted a second defeat on the Latics in two weeks. Easter is coming. This is when the boys sit down and the men take over. Fingers crossed.

PLAYER PROFILE

This weeks cover shot shows popular Latics goalie Paul Gerrard in action at Genoa (see Latics in Europe). Paul is a former Oldham trainee who made rapid progress after making his debut at Q.P.R. back in December 1992. He played a vital role in the Latics recent Premier League stay and he also made his way into the England under-21 side where he now has a cap total in double figures.

JOKES OF THE WEEK

What goes VROOM ... SCREECH VROOM ... SCREECH VROOM .. SCREECH?
A blonde going through a flashing red light.

What are the worst six years of a blonde's life? Third Grade

Why did the blonde stare at the frozen orange juice can for two hours?
Because it said 'concentrate'.

Did you hear about the blonde who was constantly being kidded about being dumb. She went home one night and studdied a map of the U.S. She went in to work next day and announced that she knew all 50 states and their capitals. One of her work friends said, "O.K. Whats the capital of Wyoming?". "Easy", she replied, "W".

and for the girls.................

What does a man consider a seven-course meal? A hot dog and a six-pack.

Why is it good that there are female astronauts?
Because when the crew gets lost in space at least the woman will ask for directions.

That's it. No more blonde jokes. Next target - dislecksycks
