Calf Exercises


Welcome to the Calf section of the Roman Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Page. This page is an index to almost every conceivable exercise for building strength, size and tone in your calves.


 

Calf Press
Major Muscle(s) Worked Calves (Gastrocnemius and soleus)
Minor Muscle(s) Worked  
Exercise Performance Sit on a leg press machine with your back and hips pushed as far back into the seat as possible. Place your feet on the lowest part of the footrest as possible. The full length of your toes should be in contact with the footrest. Release the footrest so that it is mobile witout taking your feet off the footrest. Keep your knees slightly flexed. Relax your calves so that the footrest moves toward you about an inch or so. This is your starting and finishing position. Push with you toes until the footrest is as far away from you as you can get it. Do not move your back or hips away from the seat. Do not straighten your knees.
Variations
Toes pointing in Supposedly works the outside head of the gastrocnemius more.
Toes pointing out Supposedly works the inside head of the gastrocnemius more
Knees flexed more than a little Supposedly works the Soleus more and the gastrocnemius less
