As a freshman in 1976-77, I was lucky enough to camp out for season tickets, end up with great seats for home games, and witness an NCAA championship. I know Coach Crean will bring back the glory days to MU. It's good to see some top H.S. players star ing to list Marquette among their choices with the Dukes, UCLAs, Kentuckys,etc.

Nice web site. Good to know there are MU fans out there. I know it might be tough, but you might want to try and dig into the past a bit more. There were tons of games under McGuire that probably fall under the Top 10 games of all time. By the way, #1 sho ld probably be the semi-final over UNC-Charlotte. AFter the last second shot of that game, the victory over North Carolina was almost anti-climatic. (This is from comments from alumni that were at the Omni for the championship)

Just a Swedish UMass alumnus who's interested in the progress of Oluoma - the future of Swedish basketball. I think he did the right thing attending Marquette. The hoops here really stinks :-)
The Swedish national team would probably be short by appx 20-30 points against an NCAA divI opponent. The speed, athletism and tactics are weaker here. This site was really nice, you can expect some more visits from Sweden...

In recent years, the University has squandered the relationship it has with it's fans by not listening to their deeply felt positions on many subjects. The most important part about being a Marquette basketball fan is staying realistic. It's not fair to compare today's team with teams of the past. Be happy the kids are competitive, graduating and not in trouble. If you were a high school recruit in the top 100, where would you go? North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, Arkansas, UConn, Indiana, Cincy, Michigan or maybe Stanford. How about a second-tier recruit who is from the Midwest? Illinois, Iowa, DePaul, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Wisconsin. The list is endless. Other reasons not to go to MU: conference, TV exposure, schedule, Milwaukee, current product, not going to compete for a national championship, not an NBA factory, lack of a big name coach and on and on... Reasons to go to MU: academics, play right away, MIlwaukee and excellent facility. For MU to be seriously competitive every year, they need to land at least some of the top players from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Indiana every year. I am thankful MU continues to put a good product on the floor, despite all of this. I would use the academics and facility to try to lure players away from the state schools. Bottom line: be happy it's not worse. It sure could be.

So, I'm sitting around last night praticing the second law of physics (an object at rest tends to stay at rest) and watching Sportscenter. And, wadd'ya know... on comes the highlights (err), lowlights of the Marquette/Wisconsin (err), Wisconsin blowout. That was frightly sickening and embarrasing. People blowing layups, airballing threes, errant passes. ESPN made a mockery of what happenned last night. Hell, I can even through up a brick from threeland, but an airball? Are these the type players we a e recruiting these days? I had to pay for my education, but if I knew airballing threes would have gotten me a scholarship, I would have worked hard at working on my game (err), lack of game. I think our intramural team of my senior year in college of H avy V and the Boyz can give these guys a run for their money. We had some talent, Tom (brace-boy) Peterson, Pat (Talking Smack) McMahon, Ed (Drunk of my ass) Dolan, Tim (The gay romantic) Foran, and Vince (Heavy V) Ottone coached by Brian (Bundles, I nev r saw a bet I didn't like) Bonic who would probably be a better coach than Deane. To put it simply, Deane has to go! We've got no future with the kids that we have on our team other than Wardle. Polonowski gets a rebound off a free throw and lays it in versus Dayton, that's fine and dandy, but it was off A Dayton missed free throw and gave Dayton two points! We need to get an up and coming guy who can recruit and coach! I don't see anything that Deane has in his character that warrants him being a coa h at a major university. When living in Louisville last year, MU wins at the buzzer at Louisville and runs out on the court and acts like he just won the national championship. I have to face my co-workers on Monday who were thoroughly disgusted by his ctions. I'm going to warn you Deane, be careful when you go to Louisville this year. The fans will be waiting for you. Anyway, it's these types of embarrasments and lack of coaching ability that indicates that DEANE MUST GO!!!! I feel better, now. Th nks...

DEANE MUST GO!! I am a big Kevin O'Neill guy. Deane took over a team fresh off a Sweet Sixteen appearance which had good talent. We made a few tourney appearances under Deane, WITH O'NEILL TALENT, and he made an ASS of himself by being the first coach eve to be banned for his next tournament game. We have also made the NIT, which thrills Deane. His best recruits in 5 years, Lovette or Wardle, do not even compare with McIlvaine, Key, Miller, Eford, Hutchins, A-Train, Crawford, etc.. This program is in a do nward spiral and has been since Deane took over. He has set this program back at least 6 years and maybe more. Can anyone honestly say that this program is in better shape now than when Deane took over? I had season tickets for 5 years, followed the team n the road, painted my face many times and attended my share of Kegs 'n Eggs parties prior to Saturday games. I can't even get myself to cheer for this pathetic squad any more. Cords is also to blame for not seeing this downward trend from Deane's Year 1 ecruits through Year 5. This is a bad situation that is getting worse. O'Neill was never really embraced for resurrecting this program; Deane should be fired immediately for killing this program. What big time recruit can honestly consider coming to MU? Would you? RING OUT AHOYA WITH AN MU BLAH BLAH! Basketball is the only sport that generates revenue; you would think that Cords would notice this and take his job a bit more seriously. It's not rocket science.

I love the idea about showing up at the Vincent games wearing Marquette sweatshirts, chanting, "We are (clap, clap) Marquette (clap, clap)." I think every Milwaukee area person on this board should go to the next Friday night game of Vincent's and do that Get there early, be loud, be proud. Do the same for Tosa East for Scott Merritt. Break into the chant every time Williams or Merritt does anything. Stuff like that can make a big difference. You would be surprised.

I am visiting your site to see if Brian Barone is getting any playing time. It seems from some of your recaps that he is not...we sure miss him at Texas A&M. He is one of the best defenders we had and a true floor leader last year. You guys sound like you could use a shot in the arm..better give him a sh t..you'll be real glad you did. He played most of last season with a broken thumb..even kept diving for loose balls when the rest of the team had quit playing for Brian's dad, Tony. He used to be a good 16 point per game scorer in high school, but I think he felt that he had to pass the ball instead of shooting. He was loved for his hustle and courage by the A&M faithful. Later...bill is out. By the way, tell him I was checking on him. Thanks...out.

Can anybody in Milwaukee tell me something about a 6-10 kid from Milwaukee Marquette (Grunst?) who has signed with Butler (Indianapolis)? Suspect he wasn't up to the MU level, but wonder if he wanted to play in the MCC how Butler beat out UWM, Wis-GB, Il inois-Chicago, and, of course, the Jesuits (Loyola and Detroit)???? I am glad I found Marquette Golden Eagles Basketball on the internet. I will be a strong contributor. The three players mentioned - recruits for this year - is accurate. Coach Deane was in Ndu's home Wednesday, September 9. MU will be recruiting two b g men for 2000-2001. The primary reason Marquette does not have any Milwaukee players on their roster is due to grades. They cannot pass the ACT or SAT. They would love to have one or two Milwaukee players. The secret to a strong season this year is th play of Cordell Henry. He comes to MU with a strong background, excellent offensive and defensive skills, however at the end of last season(hs), he could not shoot a jump shot. The coaches felt they could teach him. Deane said he has taught other gua ds the jump shot. Henry with a jump shot will be a dandy. Beat Wisconsin!

I've read that MU is still recruiting Marshall Williams but has passed on Caron Butler. Also heard MU mentioned by 6-5 WG Bernard King out of Louisiana who apparently carries a 3.87 gpa. Other recruits to mention MU also includ 6-9 Marcus Banta from Ohi and 6-7 forward Ndu Edeguze (sp?) from Augusta, GA. Looking forward to others weighing in with their information. Understand they're in the running for a 6-9 player from Ohio named Banta and one of the best JC players a 7-3 center name Radjovic (sp?). Any word on next year's schedule? I enjoyed this site. It gives those that want a change every now and then to experience just that. It gives us an oppotunity to get away from the "media-type" coverage. IT'S GREAT!!! The program seems to be on the right course and the addition of Rob Jeter to the coaching staff to replace Bo Ellis is a positive step. While replacing Bo will be difficult, having a young fresh face on the recruiting trail should be the shot in the arm t keep the quality recruits coming MU's way. Being from Chicago, the connection to that city's kids remains intact. Expect next year's team to be built around Cordell Henry and Oluoma Nnamaka, as well as Brian Wardle. Ring out Ahoya!!!

Among the best players ever, you must include somewhere Sam Worthen. Sam was a big guard (6'6") who played with MU from 1978-80, after playing JUCO ball. He was a second team All-American his senior year,but is best remembered for knocking down 30 pts. against ND in S. Bend with Rich Branning and Bill Hanzlick trying to stop him. Sam was light years ahead of Gary Rosenberger (who got an honorable mention on your list). Keep up the MU scoop--us Left Coasters don't get to hear much about the Warriors (o ps!). Need to hear more about recruiting news and inside dirt about the team.

Would love to see a "where are they now?" feature. I'm not a big sports fan but I do follow MU. Was a Hilltop photographer 1970-74 and attended almost every home game(and never bought a ticket). Claim to fame: tripped a ref in the blue line in 1972 and got a standing ovation from a sellout croud in the Arena. Keep up the good work.

Some new features for your site: 1) How many minutes into the game will Mike Deane use all his 20 second timeouts. 2) How many games into the season till Mike Deane rips the fans. 3) Suggestions for teams MU can schedule and try to tell the fans than these are good teams they are playing (eg Notre Dame, Boston College) My suggestion is West Virgina next year since they lose their top six players to graduation. Please MU fire Mike Deane before he plunges the program further from the level Kevin O'Neil left it at, and hire Quinn Snyder, assistant coach and former point guard at Duke. MU is a big time program and should not be run and coached by someone who still makes comparisons to Siena.

We had the game..then your awesome coach started getting upset over an obviously bad call and left the coaching box...He s ould have got the call reversed! Then there was that obviously correct goaltending call on Nate. He was 3 feet away from the basket at least, but the ball was on its way down. So they counted that..then that cool boy named Brian Wardle shot a big 3. Th n after the buzzer rang, the game was over. Whata great officialling job was that. Keep it up, it's nice to have a good non TMJ source for MU B Ball info, esp. since the Warriors don't get squat coverage in Seattle. Even now that they are ranked, it's just a paragraph in the Saettle Times. The biggest coverage so far was Deane's police escort off the court at Louisville, which is typical of the press.

This site is terrific! You've done a great job!. - Just a note - Marquette's 3 high school recruits are all having some MONSTER games this season (Henry, Harris and Diggs). Harris had games of 33 and 36pts recently. Diggs just scored 35pts in an upset last weekend. Of course, Henry is the point guard on the number 1 team in the country, Whitney Young (Chicago)- He'll probably be our starting point for 4 years.
