Stuntkites

My first kite, a Powerhouse Dynamo.  Actually it was my second kite, but the first one, with its wooden dowel spars, was of such a poor quality that I only flew with it for half an hour.

The Phantom, the second first kite that I made.  It is still a favourite, especially with non-kiters who love the almost tractor-like noise.  The kite is very precise (not exactly trickable!) and a nice kite to teach beginners on (the fact that it is very sturdy helps with that aspect too).  I have recently made another one for my wife:

The Mini from Peter Peter's site.  A tiny little kite, supposed to look like the Micron.  I built 2, thinking I might later build a train.  Well, it's still a thought, maybe I might still do it.  It is sparred with 4mm GRP, so very much a high wind speedster.

The 3-D from Prism.  I love this kite!  It is a low/no wind kite, very well made and superbly suited for the wind conditions on the South African Highveld (i.e. NO wind).

The Berghaan (or Bateleur in English).  The first kite that I have designed and built myself.  Being a first, it had some small problems, such as the trickline which has subsequently been fixed.  It also has a funny camber where the 3 colours come together, so the wing always have some inefficiency.  Despite all that, it is a beautiful kite and not bad at all for a first design.

Box of Tricks, made from a German plan by Fizz.  As most kiters will know, a very nice trick kite.  Although you will not be able to see it from the photo, the kite is very well made, with rolled seams and very careful stitching.  I have used a similar colour combination to the Berghaan above.  I will definitely build another one in the near future, this time in Icarex.

Tric Tac, a very small indoor trick kite designed by Ronald Krueger.  I decided to use a turbo-bridle, which I got all wrong.  It is quite nice, but a bit on the small side for me (we don't really have that much indoor flying around here).[This is a picture of Ronald's kite, I still have to take a pic of my green one]

The custom made Pizazz by Dick Barnes, my newest addition to the stuntkite bag.  Dick has an excellent reputation as kite builder and his kites have placed well in competitions where they took part.  Dick is also a regular participant on #kites on IRC.
