The Venue
The venue is the historical MERDEKA STADIUM right in the centre of Kuala Lumpur City which hosted Malaysia's independence Day ceremony in 1957 and will witness its last event with the hosting of interhash '98. After that it will be demolished to make way for a new complex. How else would the government clear up the mess after Interhash '98 but to tear it down completely
and rebuild it from scratch?? This venue is located near the main railway and bus stations and is within walking distance of many hotels, restaurants, pubs and places of interest. Anyway, not to worry, as by then getting around Kuala Lumpur will be even easier as our rapid transit rail system will be finished in time for The Commonwealth Games in September '98.
THE "BALL BREAKER" RUN
This Interhash will feature a "Ball Breaker" Run to commemorate traditional Hash Celebration runs. Those of you tuffies would remember the "endurance run" in Borneo Nash Hash at Kota Kinabalu where hashers were taken up and down 7 hills or the "survival run" in Pan Asia Kuching when we started with a 300m climb and then meandering around the hills in deep jungle tracks.
All these runs take more than 3 hours for an average hasher.-LET YOUR BALLS ROLL!

How we do it here
You are celebrating INTERHASH '98 in the Klang Valley, the land of the hashers and also the place where your roots began. You are also back to the place where it all started in 1938 in the compound of the Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur. This is our 60th aniversary of hashing.
Over the years, hundreds of hashes emerged from all over the world and may have deviated from the original Mother Hash traditional style of hashing. This is also generally the style of hashing among the Klang Valley hashers and will be adopted in the Interhash '98 runs.
This little article briefs you on how the Klang Valley hashers do it.
- All papers are glossy white 100x100 mm size. (In celebration runs the event may be printed on the papers).
- Papers start from the windscreen of the hare's car, which is described in the circular.
- A check is denoted by a cluster of papers of the same type at the end of the trail.
- The same paper starts the next trail from the last check which is usually within 100 meters in any direction (except up in trees or under water).
- If there is a false trail it is usually not more than 100 mters long. There should not be more than one false trail from the last check.
- Circular checks are quite common in the Malaysian jungles to catch the fast runners.
- A good run normaly has 6 to 8 checks and stretches for 75 to 90 minutes or 8km to 12km over a variety of terrains.
- Home trails are usually longer than normal trails and can be as long as 3km.
A Little About Malaysia (The Home Of The Hash)
Malaysia is a tropical hash paradise situated 7 degrees north of the equator in the heart of South East Asia. It comprises Peninsular Malaysia and the two States of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo. The Climate is warm and humid throughout the year. Temperature range from 21c to 32c.
Malaysia is a multi racial country with a population of 20 million (With an estimate 8000 of the population being crazy hashers in 116 clubs) in a territory covering 329, 758 sq.km. That tells you the hashing potential. Malaysians are made up of mainly Malays, Chinese, Indians and a very diverse group of indigenous people. Bahasa Malaysia is the National Language but
English is widely spoken and hash songs are widely sung as well. Islam is the official religion but Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and other religions are practiced freely.
Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of GMT and 16 hours ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time.
