Professional Football League
The
Singapore Professional Football League was first introduced in 1996
after Singapore quit the Malaysian League.
Started with eight teams,
the competition has gone from strength to strength. Now in the third season,
it features 11 teams across Singapore. Each team play each other twice
in a 8 months long season for the League championship. The other competition
in progress is the FA Cup, running simultaneously the the
League.
Each
team is permitted to sign five foreigners and this has created a truly
cosmpolitan League. There are players from Croatia, Nigeria, Thailand,
England, Brazil, Australia and many more. This foreigner player quota may
however be reduced in the very near future.
Legalized betting, model
after the English system will be in placed next season. This will without
doubt generate tremendous interest and funds.
The competition in 1998
appeared so much keener. Who will be the champion? Stay tune to Football
Singapore Ezine.
We will keep you up to date. |
