Tiger Cup
ASEAN Football Federation Championship Singapore
the Champion
Tiger Cup-Asean Football
Federation Championships is now underway in Vietnam. Singapore score
two wins an a draw to qualify for the semi-final.
Singapore top Group B and qualify for the semi-final after two win and a draw. Singapore will play Indonesia in the semi-final to be held on Wednesday, 3-9-98. FARCE
OF THE CENTURY
In last night Group A final games between Thailand and Indonesia, both appeared desperate to finish runner-up and avoid host Vietnam. Thailand needing a draw to qualify as group runner up put all their men in defence and hardly crossed the halfway line. It was such a farce that even Indonesian goalkeeper managed to join in the attack and sent potshot at the Thai goal. And when the score was 2-2 and Thailand look set to finish runner-up and play Singapore, Indonesia surprisely attacked their own goal and scored the most unsporting goal in the history of football to sent the Thais to play the host nation instead.. Farce of the millinieum. Wonder does it really warrant both teams to give up their honor and go to such unsporting length to avoid Vietnam. Basis on the games so far, Singapore definitely look like a stronger team. Good luck to the indos.. other SINGAPORE games Singapore 2

Two chances two goals. Indonesia made fundatmental defensive mistake in the first 20mins and Singapore grabbed both chance to got 2-0 up. The Indonesia pulled one back before half time but Singapore held on for its final Cup final appearance in nine years. Contary to the majority perception, the average age of the Singapore first 11 team are younger than their arch rival. The Malysia look hopelessly pathetic, and were well worth the two goals defeat. For Singapore, the young brigade won the day. Ahmad Latiff, Gusta and Lim Soon Seng were outstanding. Providing the team with youthful exuberance and energy missing in the Lion display over the last few years. Figure the host nation must have entertained the match officials handsomely after that. Singapore scored its biggest international win in a long long time. Amazing without our favourite son Fandi Ahmad, the Lion attack look much more mobile and potent. The hero of the night? 19 years old Ahmad Latiff, who scored twice in the first half before been replaced by Jurong's Joseph Pragasam. If Singapore football are approaching Papua New Guniea level, than Malaysia football is definitely heading for Papua New Guniea U-14 women team standard. |
SAFFC
crowned S-League champion
The warrior pipped
Tanjong Pagar on goal differences to win its second consecutive
championship. It must be a big relief for the SAFFC new management eager
to repeat last year success
Scorers table please click here. more NEWS Alan West to coach SAFFC? Hopefully
not. The guy may have brought success to Sarawak, but his team played long
ball and tactics were revolved around tall foreign players making their
presence at setpieces. For the sake of football development in the country,
particularly when SAFFC is the hotbed of young talents, Please do not let
him step into Singapore soil.
Robert Albert join Home United. The Dutchman sent minor shock waves across thje island when he announced that we will be joining Home United immediately. Most were expecting him to join the Malaysian teams. Look like Singapore clubs do have its attractions. Or perhaps Singapore dollars still have its attractions.. |
