Coach Jim Flanagan

(A.K.A.- "The Legend")

Coach Jim Flanagan has been coaching the East Haven High School Cross Country Team for 9 years.  This past season has been the most memorable and by far the best team ever coached by "the legend", Jim Flanagan.  Jim has been more than just a coach, but a friend to all of his harriers.  Jim leaves his cottage open for the team to visit all year 'round.  Coach Flanagan has invited his entire team to a picnic at his summer cottage, where the harriers bonded with one another and their coach as well.  Jim Flanagan enjoys lobster trapping, whale watching, and has hosted his first annual horseshoe tournament at his cottage's resort this past season.  Jim offers his deer antlers, which hang above his living room, to anyone who can defeat him in a horseshoe match.  Along with his close companionship with his harriers, Jim also found time to organize the first annual East Haven Invitational, which was won by his team in a triumphant fashion.  This past year was the turn around for his cross country program.  He coached his team to a 10-5 season in '97.   The teams seniors will miss the good times with their coach and teammates, but Jim Flanagan has many good years of coaching left ahead of him.  Flanagan posted his PR this season at 15:24, his personal best.  With a little more training, Jim hopes to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 2000.  Good Luck Jim!!
