Thursday 14th May 1998
Martina defeated Iva Majoil in a rematch of last year's French Open final. Martina won 6-1 6-2 in just 49 minutes. She is unbeaten on clay so far this season, and has picked up three consecutive titles in so many weeks! Great preparation for the French Open. Martina will play Anna Kournikova in the quarter final.

Wednesday 13th May 1998
Martina swept past Silvia Farina of Italy 6-0 7-5 to advance to the third round.

Sunday 10th May 1998
Martina levelled her record with Venus Williams today to 2-2 on head-to-head. In a match which lasted almost 2 hours, Martina pulled out a 6-3 2-6 6-3 win for her fourth title of the season.
Martina has a 30-3 win/loss record this season, with two of those losses falling to Venus. This could be the kind of rivalry everyone except Martina fans have been waiting for!

Saturday 9th May 1998
Martina defeated her friend and former doubles partner, Mirjana Lucic in straight sets 6-2 6-1 in just 46 minutes.

Friday 8th May 1998
Martina kept a clean sheet on head to head against Anna Kournikova with a straight sets 6-2 6-4.

Thursday 7th May 1998
Martina defeated Irina Spirlea the number 10 seed, 6-1 6-2, to advance to the quarter final. She will play another teenage prodigy, Anna Kournikova who defeated Iva Majoli today.

Wednesday 6th May 1998
Martina stormed into the second round at the Italian Open with a 6-3 6-0 thrashing over China's Fang Li.

The Italian Open in Rome begins today, with Martina entering as the top seed, where she gets a first round bye.

Martina won her first professional title on European Clay with an impressive 6-3 7-5 win over Jana Novotna.
Martina has had the perfect warm up to the French Open, which starts in a few weeks.

Saturday 2nd May 1998
Martina needed just 51minutes to reach the final with a straight sets 6-2 6-2 win over Barbara Schett. Martina will face Jana Novotna in the final, who needed three sets to beat another Swiss, Patty Schnyder 2-6 7-5 6-3 to reach the final.

Friday 1st May 1998
Martina destroyed the former prodigy of tennis, Jennifer Capriati 6-1 6-3. Martina needed less than an hour to move through to the semi final, where she will meet the Austrian Barbara Schett.

Wednesday 29th April 1998
Martina had to fight off three set points before overcoming Julie Halard-Decugis 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the Intersport Ladies Grand Prix at Hamburg to win a place in the quarter finals.
