"See what I told ya? They always come home to the ones they love." You're always right, Sully. Thank you." She gave him a light but heartfelt kiss. "Do you think you could take Katie to Grace and Robert E. later? I have..umm a patient coming in from the train and I need someone to watch Katie. "Sure, I have to go and help Robert E anyway. Just tell me what time you need me to take her." "Well, it would only be for an hour or so. Say around 11? Then maybe we could meet up for lunch at Grace's?" "Hmm. Sounds great to me. I will see you later than." And with that Sully kissed her good bye and walked out of the clinic. Michaela stood staring at the door. How much she loved him and wanted to make him happy. Hopefully, she would have good news to tell him by the end of the day. Michaela paced the platform up and down nervously. She couldn't stop her hands from shaking. "Oh I hope I'm right. I am right. Oh, I've waited for this for so long. What iff.." She kept thinking to herself when suddenly the train whistle interrupted her train of thought. This made her more nervous because soon she would either be happy or disappointed. Once the train came to a hault, the person Michaela had been waiting for walked out searching for her. "Ah, Dr. Quinn. How lovely to see you again. Now I don't have much time so we will have to hurry up." the vistor said while looking at the gold watch in their hand. "Of course, my clinic is just around the corner. Follow me." Michaela replied as she quickly made her way down the platform steps and on to the dusty road towards her clinic. Sully sat at one of Grace's tables with Katie on his lap. They were enjoying the game of "peek a boo". Katie was laughing and smiling which made Sully even more happy. He loved his daughter very much, and he couldn't believe that he wouldn't have Katie if he hadn't met Michaela. Katie grew more and more like her ma everyday. She had her stubborn dissposition, which Sully loved, and her ma's kind and gentle heart. Katie was friendly with everyone. Just then Sully decided to look up. When he did, he saw Michaela coming towards him. "Michaela, over here!" He yelled to her as he tried to keep Katie from falling. "Hello Sully." She greeted him with a kiss. "I'm famished!" "So am I." He said eyeing her expression. She seemed rather happy today. Much different from this morning. Michaela couldn't stop smiling. He wanted to ask her what was on her mind, but thought it may have been her reaction to seeing him. Nonetheless, he couldn't stop wondering what was making her so happy. He didn't have a clue. If it was anything, he was sure she would tell him sooner or later. He hated to pry when he knew when Michaela was ready to tell him, she would tell him. "Ma, can ya pass the carrots?" Brian asked at the table later night night while they were eating supper. "Here ya go," she said weakly. Ever since lunch her stomach was acting up. She didn't tell Sully, but she had lost her lunch more than once that day. She tried hard to conceal how she physically felt, which was tired and naucious. Sully could tell something was wrong with Michaela, but he didn't want to say anything infront of Brian to worry him. "Brian, when you're done, do ya think you could go in the barn and check if the horses are fed?" Sully asked him so maybe that would give him a chance to talk to Michaela. "Sure, I'll go right now. I'm done eating. Great supper ma." He slipped on his hat and coat and walked out the door. Sully shifted his attention from the door to his wife. He finally got the courage to say something to her. "Michaela, are you feeling ok?" He asked with concern. "I'm fine, Sully. I have an upset stomach is all. I think its something I ate this afternoon that doesn't agree with me." Michaela gave her husband a weak smile to tell him not to worry. Sully didn't buy it. "Well, you should get some rest. Go on up to bed, it will make you feel better. I can clean up and get Katie to bed. You just worry about getting better, alright?" Sully told her as he helped her up out of the chair. "Thank you, Sul..." Michaela felt a little dizzy and quickly grabbed onto Sully's shoulders. "Michaela! Here, I'll help ya into bed, you gotta take it easy." Sully picked up Michaela into his arms and lifted her up the stairs. "Sully, this really isn't necessary." Michaela started to blush. "Yes, it is. You're sick and I don't want ya straining yourself. Besides, I love to hold my wife sometimes," Sully told her with a smirk on his face. "I love you, Sully. Thank you." Michaela said with a yawn as Sully set her on the bed and helped her out of her dress and into a night shift. "I love ya too, Michaela. Now get some rest." He pulled the covers over her and kissed her lightly on the forehead. She was already fast asleep by the time he shut the bedroom door. "Sully, what's wrong with ma? " Brian asked with concern as Sully was decending the stairs. "Her stomach was botherin her so I told her she needed to rest. Don't worry Brian, she will be better by morning." Sully comprehended what he just said. Earlier today, she was a happy woman with something on her mind to someone who was miserable and sick. Something was wrong, but he couldn't figure it out. "It's probably nothin to worry about," he kept telling himself. But something inside him doubted what he was thinking. "Michaela, Michaela, wake up." Sully said softly into her ear. "Hmm, a little while longer, please, Sully" She pleaded. "Michaela it's almost 9, don't ya think you should get up?" he asked with a worried expression on his face. CONTINUED \\ |
