Please take the time to
read.
We think its very important for the host family and possible aupair to
be as well-informed as possible.
EXPECTATIONS:
What we expect from you is:
- Be up when we leave for work.
- You must be available to work whenever we are at work. If you
need time
off, it must be agreed upon before hand.
- You are invited to eat dinner with us. Annick usually does the
cooking, so you
would not be required to fix the evening meal.
- After we get home and have discussed the boys’ day, you are free.
- Weekends you are free, however, if you are around the house you would
be
expected to clean up after yourself.
What you can expect from us:
- You will receive two weeks paid vacation during the summer, during the
time we take our vacation.
- Any holidays we get off from work you would be off (and be paid for).
- Other time off is negotiable.
- Evening and weekend baby-sitting will occur, but should be rare and
you
would be told ahead of time. We will either pay you, or you
can take the
time off (with pay) some other time.
- You will at the most work 33 hrs/week. For this you will receive a
monthly
pocket money of NLG 500, the legal amount set here in The
Netherlands.
It is the going rate for Holland too.
- You must not smoke. If you have friends over who smoke, we ask
that they
not smoke in our house or in our car.
- Phone. You will pay for your own long distance calls. What
works out
best is after we receive the telephone bill and determine which
are your
calls, we deduct the amount of the calls you have made from your
pay.
- Food. Let us know if you have special things to eat. As
long as they are
reasonable, we will try to accommodate them. Also let us
know if there are
things you do not like or cannot eat.
- Car. You must have an international driver's license and a good
driving
record. If you are planning to take the car on a long trip
during the weekend
(over two hours one way), you must check with us first.
- Guests. No guests during the day that would interfere with your
care of
the boys. Evening and weekend guests are usually okay if
you check with us
first.
- Your bedroom should be kept clean and neat. Annick will do all
the laundry.
We do expect you to change your own sheets.
TYPICAL WEEK
This schedule is during the school year, beginning September through middle
of June. During the summer the boys have more free time. This schedule changes
as their activities change.
Bas and Rick are presently going to
playschool 4 mornings/week. They absolutely love it there. They learn and play, and it is
a great experience for them to prepare for school. They will turn 4 on September 1, 1999.
As of then they will go to kindergarten, which is only a 2.5-mins walk from our house (end
of the street only). Their school days will be (as far as I now know):
Monday: 830-1130am and 1330-1530pm
Tuesday: 830-1130am and 1330-1530pm
Wednesday: 830-1130am (afternoon off)
Thursday: 830-1130am and 1330-1530pm
Friday: 830-1130am (afternoon off).
Monday
- Family up by about 7:00 a.m.
- Prepare breakfast for boys (and yourself)
- The boys will be going to school at 8:20 a.m. Walk them to
school.
- They get out of school at 1130am. Pick them up, make lunch and take
them
back around 130pm.
- They get out of school at 330pm.
- After picking the boys up - have them do their homework (you may need
to
help them), spend time with boys, playing (go swimming, take them
to the
park)
- The boys are allowed to have a snack sometime in the afternoon.
They
might want it when they get home from school, they may want it a
little
later. Please do not let them eat too close to dinner time.
- Cleaning (best time to do this is while the boys are at school):
- Vacuum family room
- Empty all trash containers in the house
Tuesday
- Same as Monday (no cleaning, maybe some ironing)
Wednesday
- The boys' school day is shorter, from 830 a.m. to 1130am

Daily

clean.
- We do not expect you to clean up for the boys. We do expect you
to have
them pick up the messes they have made. We want to teach
them
responsibility and respect for their home and their things.
- Clean the toilet seat (wipe off with a cloth).
