Course Description: This course studies the professional, philosophy and laws related to pharmacy and safe and accurate use and distribution of medications. This includes the requirements, administration, and enforcement of local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations governing the pharmacy profession.
Required Texts:
1. Supplementary Materials Available through Kappa Psi (S)
2. Guide to Federal Pharmacy Law Second Edition (G)
Additional Materials: Students are responsible for getting copies of handouts from other students if you are not in class when they are distributed.
Grading: Grades will be compiled as part of the total grade for Pharmacy 4420. See the syllabus for PHPR 4420. I will submit your final point average to the coordinator of the entire course. Your final point average will be based on your scores on the midterm, final, extra credit and other sources that may develop.
Office Hours: By appointment. Contact me by email to arrange an appointment. I will usually be available after the Wednesday classes.
Exams:
There will be a midterm and a final. The date for the mid-term will be announced.
The final exam will
be held during finals week according to the university final exam schedule.
Missed Quizzes or Exams:
Unannounced quizzes may be given at any time. Quizzes cannot be made up. There are no excuses. A make-up midterm
exam will be offered only for excused absences. The student must contact the
college office or me before the exam. Acceptable excuses include: severe injury or illness (proof of visit to
emergency room or physician must be provided), or death in family (obituary
must be provided). Over sleeping is not an excuse. The final decision on the acceptability of the student's excuse will be
made by the course coordinator.
Attendance Policy: Regular classroom attendance is expected necessary for academic success and preparation for employment. Students are expected to attend class and take notes. Note taking in this class is very important.
Since I am only at the university on the day of class, you will have a hard time getting a hold of me at the College of Pharmacy by phone. Feel free to contact me at home (Please phone at reasonable hours). Naturally, you can fax or e-mail me anytime. (Email preferred).
The following is a tentative class, topic, and test schedule for the spring quarter. It is subject to change. We may move through the material at a faster or slower pace than the schedule indicates. If the mid-term is to given on a different date I will notify at least two weeks in advance.
The final exam will be given as listed in the university
exam schedule on TUESDAY MAY 7 from
10:15 AM to 12:15 PM.
