Congratulations to Bill Rodger on his award of the Australian Fire Service Medal during the Queens Birthday Honours 2006

Wilberforce brigade has also seen significant involvement in all major fires in the Sydney Basin, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains and was heavily involved in NSW Task Forces sent to Canberra in 2003 during the ACT's worst Bushfire Emergency in History. Members who travelled to ACT were honoured by the ACT Government with the issue of the ACT Emergency Medal. Congratulations to all recipients.

In October / November 2002, the Brigade was actively involved in major firefighting activities. Resources were stretched to the absolute limit with our volunteers giving countless hours of dedicated work in some horrendous conditions.
This was a long campaign which saw our people operating from the Blue Mountains in the west to remote locations to the north. Wallaby Swamp featured prominently yet again.

Special mention always goes out to those family and friends supporting those in the field. You are as important to the effort as those putting wet stuff on red stuff. Thanks for being there.

Christmas Day 2001 saw the start of the Black Christmas Fires. This was declared the worst bushfire emergency in Australian History. Firefighters from across Australia assisted with suppression efforts.
Horrendous weather and fire conditions prevailed and resources were pushed to the limit.
The use of the Sky Cranes "Elvis", "Miss Peach" and "The Incredible Hulk" supplemented the growing number of firefighting aircraft being used for water bombing and proved to be very beneficial. HRH Prince Andrew of Great Britain saw fit to take time out of his holidays to visit some of the victims and NSWRFS HQ Rosehill. A brilliant effort by all concerned in this time of national disaster.
