KEYBOARDING
Prerequisite: NoneStudents will acquire the ability to keyboard using the touch method with the proper posture and keystroke techniques and will apply these skills to various business and personal keyboarding applications. Students will be introduced to basic business letters, memos, tabulations, outlines, and reports.
Passing this course with a "B" or better grade will waiver "Keyboarding (OIT 100) at Pikes Peak Community College and transfer to other community colleges in Colorado.
INTERMEDIATE KEYBOARDING
Semester Course 9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Keyboarding, one semester of junior high keyboarding, or teacher recommendation
Students will work on improving both speed and accuracy in keyboarding. They should also be able to apply their keyboarding skills to various personal and business applications. Emphasis will be on advanced letters, tabulations, outlines, and reports. Students will be using and IBM computer to complete their class assignments.
ACCOUNTING ACCOUNTING I
Semester Course 9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: None
Accounting I introduces the basics of keeping orderly business financial records. Procedures learned include journals, positng, preparing financial statements, keeping checking accounts, and understanding basic sole proprietor and partnership accounting practices. One business simulation packet is completed in Accounting I.
ACCOUNTING II
Semester Course 9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Accounting I
Accounting II builds on the principles learned in Accounting I. Procedures learned include the use of special journals, recording payroll records, accounting for uncollectible accounts, depreciation, notes and interest, and understanding basic corporation accounting principles. One simulation packet is completed in Accounting II.
Passing this course with a "B" or better grade will waive "Business Records" (ACC 110) at Pikes Peak Community College and transfer to other community colleges in Colorado.

Prerequisite: Keyboarding recommendedThis course is designed for students who are interested in learning the basics of the WordPerfect word processor. Students will be using an IBM computer to complete their assignments.

Accounting III builds on the principles learned in Accounting II. Procedures learned include departmental accounting and elaboration of partnership practices. Automated accounting simulations and one business simulation are completed in Accounting III.
ACCOUNTING IV Semester Course 10-11-12
Prerequisite: Accounting III
Accounting IV builds on the principles learned in Accounting III. Procedures learned include accounting for accrued items and accounting for plant assets. One simulation packet and one automated accounting simulation are completed in Accounting IV.
COMPUTER CONCEPTS Semester Course 9-10-11-12

Prerequisite: Keyboarding recommendedThe course is designed to provide an introduction to word processing, data base, spreadsheet presentations, and data communications via the internet. Students will have access to an IBM network to complete assigned projects.
BUSINESS LAW Semester Course 11-12
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to introduce students to topics in the field of business law. Topics introduced include criminal law, contracts, purchase or sale of goods, bailments, insurance, real and personal property, and wills and estate planning. Some methods that will be used in the learning process are vocabulary building, case studies, mock trials, and guest speakers.
BUSINESS PROCEDURES Semester Course 10-11-12
Prerequisite: Keyboarding
This course offers students employment preparation through the use of an IBM computer network, calculators, and machine transcribers. The students will learn an alphabetic filing system and job application and interview procedures. Skill reinforcement through simulation is also included.
COOPERATIVE OFFICE EDUCATION Year Course 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Information Processing or Accounting III and Business Procedures (all of these, or any combination of them, may be taken concurrently with COE). Speedwriting is recommended for clerical/secretarial students.
Cooperative Office Education (COE) is a work-study program provided for senior business students who desire a career in business. A portion of their school day will actually be spent working in an office/business environment to gain valuable work experience prior to graduation. Students enroll in the COE Related Class where improvement of business skills and attitudes are stressed. In addition, students are granted release time from school to be placed in part-time (afternoon) jobs in cooperating area business firms where they utilize their business skills and knowledge by working as an actual employee of the firm. They are paid by the employer.
Students should plan their schedules so they may be released during fourth, fifth, sixth, and/or seventh period.
COE Related Class: This class meets daily to prepare the student in business skill improvement, human relations, dependability, initiative, goal setting, business procedures, professionalism, travel and conference arrangements, job simulations, time management, filing, telephone techniques, minutes of a meeting, and all attributes necessary to become a business professional. The student receives a grade and one credit toward graduation for the classroom portion of the COE program.
Work Experience: Students report to their part-time jobs every afternoon. There they are instructed by a training supervisor in all aspects of work performance. The COE teacher-coordinator will visit the firm regularly for the purpose of observing and evaluating the student’s work performance. The student receives a grade and two credit hours toward graduation for successful work performance.
