Franklin
Pierce, the 14th President of the United States, was born in Hillsboro, New
Hampshire in 1804. Pierce |

|
received
his education at Bowdoin College where he also met Nathaniel Hawthorne, who
later became his biographer. |
|
|
Pierce
was the youngest member while being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1847.
Pierce also served as brigadier-general |
|
in the Mexican War, leading troops
at the battles of Contreras and Churubusco.
While already having a successful law |
|
|
practice, Pierce received the
Democratic nomination for President in 1852 and received the electoral votes
of all but four |
|
|
states. During his adminstration, the leading
events were the Gadsen Purchase, the Koszta Affair and the Kansas-Nebraska |
|
Bill. Pierce Died in 1869. |
