This model / M2 is tuned down a whole step as the double string is G/(F*), D/(C*), A/(G*), are tuned in octaves or in standard tuning; The E/(D*) is not as nothing smaller than a 0.008 string and is easily found or used. You can use a regular set of mandolin strings, only needing an extra .008 to double the A/(G)* strings, the string gauges (* the actual note tuned to) being .026/.039, .015/.026, .008/.015, .011/.011

The sound produced by this tuning and lay-out is something between a tiple, quatro, or tres sound. The lowered tuning makes the playability quite fluid and remarkably easier to play, including bending notes and vibrato, which are normally difficult on the mandolin. With the body size, a large, full, sweet sound is produced.

We're now offering this model in a 14-inch scale length with either 12 or 14 frets to the body and standard tuning. The shorter scale length in this model will only be available for a limited time.

This instrument has a curved back like a violin and a bent or sprung top. This is achieved by bending the top over an 180 degrees curved brace at the bottom gradually reducing the arching towards the top. There is a curved advanced x-bracing between the 180 degree curved lower brace and the sound hole. the sound hole is 1 3/4" or 45 mm. This model is available with 10 or 12 frets to the body.

The sound produced by this tuning and lay-out is something between a tiple, quatro, or tres sound. The lowered tuning makes the playability quite fluid and remarkably easier to play, including bending notes and vibrato, which are normally difficult on the mandolin. With the body size, a large, full, sweet sound is produced, and has a very full powerful sound when playing chords.

At present, this is the only scale length offered for this body style, but we will offer a 14" scale in standard tuning in the coming year. If you would like this model in standard tuning, we can cut a nut for this on request, or if you would like one up to one year after initial purchase we will be happy to provide one. But we think the sound and playability will intrigue you and we encourage you to try it. Mandolin capos can beused easily on the 2nd. fret to make it standard tuning, but will of course make things tighter as far as playability.
