GENERAL SCOPE OF OUR SERVICES

The firm operates from Caracas, Venezuela, South America, attending most of the Venezuelan ports. Our associates have been related with marine transportation of foods and agricultural products and P&I matters for more than twenty years. Our clients are mainly ship owners, lines, charterers, agents, P&I Clubs and their local correspondents, and other entities involved in the maritime business, including exporters, importers, cargo underwriters and maritime lawyers.

Our services include cargo surveys and inspections of foods, foodstuffs, agricultural products and raw materials; damage assessment and investigations in marine claims; claims handling; loss prevention; scientific and technical advise in legal cases and expert witness.

Our associates have high level academic formation in food science, technology and engineering, and large experience in marine transportation of foods and P&I oriented work. Therefore, they have the ability to understand and analyze complex problems associated with transportation, preservation and storage of foods and agricultural products.

Also, in relation with loss prevention, we have developed a unique application of the HACCP (Hazard analysis-critical control points) concept to risk analysis in transportation of reefer cargoes, in order to reduce damage and claims.

In the same way, we provide consultation service in food transportation, including packaging, palletization, stowage, prevention of condensation, stuffing, optimal carriage conditions and handling food cargoes in reefer containers and reefer vessels. We have developed computer programs with an extensive database of optimal storage conditions, thermo-physical and biochemical data, optimal stowage patterns in reefer containers, computer simulation of cooling and heating processes, estimation of cooling/freezing times, air psychrometrics and condensation damage, and storage in reefer containers. The program for reefer containers permits the calculation of the refrigeration system parameters, cool down times and air exchange required for fresh fruits and vegetables.

We have also extensive experience in thermal processing of foods, sterilization/pasteurization, low temperature preservation of foods, thermal resistance of microorganisms and nutrients, food stability in storage, hygiene and sanitation in food processing, food preservation and computer simulation of food processes.

Our work is backed by our own laboratory service. Our reports are written in English or Spanish, at client's request. Preliminary reports for surveys are usually presented within 24 hours after the inspection and final reports delivered promptly, usually in less than 72 hours after finishing the work.
