BEEF
OVEN BRAISED SHORT RIBS
(This is also very good
with a beef roast)
5 lb. short ribs
3 Tbs. shortening
1 tbs. instant minced onion
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tbs. Bon Appetit
1 tsp. herb seasoning
1/4 tsp. ground thyme
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. beef flavor base
1 C. hot water
6 med. potatoes
6 med. carrots, peeled
1. Brown short ribs on all
sides in hot shortening.
2. Add seasonings and
beef flavor base dissolved in the hot water.
3. Cover. Bake
at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.
4. Drain off excess
fat. Add potatoes and carrots and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour
longer.
5. Thicken liquid for
gravy if desired.
For Beef Roast (5-6
pounds)
1. Mix spices together.
Rub over roast.
2. Bake at 350 degrees
for about 4 hours.
