He Opens His Mouth

In Matthew 5:1-2 Jesus Messiah is our Teacher in the perfect image of his Father, and anyone listening to him and observing his words sees the Father also. This fact does not make him equal to the Father in heaven; Jesus only gives us a perfect view of what our Father’s qualities are. Is Jesus God? Yes. Can Jesus have his Father's name? Yes, for he comes in his Father's name. It therefore does not matter what Jesus looked like on the outside, for a person’s looks are vain. Jesus is not the Father of heaven as some say, but the very first and only son of our heavenly Father and he is our messenger from his Father and God, sent forth by his Father; he can therefore be considered God’s Angel, an angel greater than all the other angels. He is the only one God called his Son and through him we become God's children too.

John 5:33-38 ASV  Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.  34  But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.  35  He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.  36  But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me37  And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form38  And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.

John 13:12-16 ASV  So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?  13  Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.  14  If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.  15  For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.  16  Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him.

Hebrews 1:1-4 GNB In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things. 3 He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact likeness of God's own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right side of God, the Supreme Power. 4 The Son was made greater than the angels, just as the name that God gave him is greater than theirs.

Because the Messiah is in perfect union with our Father and is the Word of God, we can then say that Jesus serves as God's own mouth. We must also observe here that Jesus goes up into the mountain, in parallel to what occurred on the mountain in the wilderness when God spoke to the son's of Israel after their exodus from Egypt. We observe that God spoke to them first through his own Word, and after the dread of his power was realized, God spoke through Moses, whom was the shadow of what was to come.  The contrast however, is that here Jesus is no longer a powerful dreaded voice but a powerful loving person, as he had demonstrated with the miracles he preformed just before going up to teach.

Matthew 4:24-25 ASV  And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.  25  And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.

So now rather than being terrified by his shear power, a people, considered to be of low class by their own Scribes, are very much willing to approach God's Word in the form of a man whose great power was from YHWH the Father. Another interesting parallel we must point out is when Solomon as a shadow of what was to come, taught Israel about God on mount Zion.

Ecclesiastes 12:9-10 ASV  9  And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.  10  The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written uprightly, even words of truth.

In the same way then, Jesus is continually teaching the chosen sons of Israel. Those who are his sheep come to him when they hear his voice, and they are not afraid of him. Just as the manna came down from heaven to feed those in the wilderness, so too, the Word continually feeds those our Father in heaven calls to him by the Holy Spirit. Messiah's sheep must understand that in order to live they must continually eat the food that never parishes, and just like the manna would develop worms and stink if not put to use, so to the true bread of life will start to decompose and rot away, if we neglect it in our lives. The true bread that comes down from heaven is not anything physical; it is the Word of God which we digest as conceptual knowledge and understanding of our Father’s Word. Moreover, if we fail to put this true bread into practice, it will anger our Master and Teacher as it did Moses when the Israelites would leave some of the manna over night. When we eat the true bread, or rather, when we read and listen to Father’s Word we must all put effort into trying to grasp its meaning. All of us will be able to grasp what we need, no more and no less, if we only seek its meaning as we would seek hidden treasure.

Matthew 4:3-4 ASV  And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.  4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

John 6:65 ASV  And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it be given unto him of the Father.

Exodus 16:20 ASV  Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was wroth with them.

Proverbs 19:24 ASV  The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

Exodus 16:12-20 ASV  I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God.  13  And it came to pass at even, that the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp.  14  And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness a small round thing, small as the hoar-frost on the ground.  15  And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is it? For they knew not what it was. And Moses said unto them, It is the bread which Jehovah hath given you to eat.  16  This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded, Gather ye of it every man according to his eating; an omer a head, according to the number of your persons, shall ye take it, every man for them that are in his tent.  17  And the children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less.  18  And when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.  19  And Moses said unto them, Let no man leave of it till the morning.  20  Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was wroth with them.

Proverbs 2:1-5 ASV  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee;  2  So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;  3  Yea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;  4  If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:  5  Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.
