Hi,
I have been a fan of
Kannada film songs from my school days. I used to listen to Bangalore
Vividha Bharathi daily before going to school. That was the time when
Doordarshan did not have morning programs(Thank God).
I have always felt that
Kannada Film music did not get enough exposure in other states of South
India, where as Tamil and Telugu songs were very popular in Karnataka. That
was mainly because of the low profile the industry liked to keep. But if you
just look up who got the national film awards, then Kannada films had a much
better place than Tamil or Telugu films.
There has been excellent
Musicians and Poet/lyricist in the Kannada film world. Few musicians I am
able to mention here are Rajan-Nagendra, G.K.Venkatesh, Satyam, VijayaBhaskar,
M.RangaRao, etc...
I would say that the period between 1970 - 1985 would be the Golden period
for Kannada Film songs.
In this site I have
collected some of the very beautiful songs of that period. Though I am an
ardent fan(read Hard Core) of Maestro
ILAIYARAAJA and would not listen to
songs by any other music director, I am hosting this site because of the special
place I have for Kannada songs in my heart.
